I used to be a pretty big chatter in the chat rooms. But I've found some chat rooms to be nothing but, a place for people to look for hook ups. : I have met some really interesting people from all over the world in some of the chat rooms on MSN (of course there still are the freaks out there, that are only looking for one thing). But I have met some really GREAT people in the chat room right here on the forum. Since I've joined the forum, I haven't been to a MSN chat in a while, but I am still contact with many of my online friends that I have chatted with.
I have run into that problem with my yahoo messenger. I think it has alot to do with whether your have a chat profile created, but I am not quite sure. But I don't get tagged too much by the freaks on it, but if I do...before I close the im window, I block them from seeing me online and then close the window. ;)
In light of recent discussions within the "Computers In A Child's Bedroom" Thread I wanted to bring this thread back to life to continue that discussion a little more towards what the child does online rather than the location of the computer.
Supervised or not a child may or may not be into the chatting scene. We all have to remember that it is not always a child or a young persons maturity that makes decisions in the "heat of the moment" so to speak. Stories about friends that have met people that they have spoken with online as well as many other forms of peer pressure may persuade them in ways past their better judgment. Aside from real life pressures and influences, many online predators can have a very persuasive personality.
