From CNN:
TEEN CLEARED IN LANDMARK DVD CASE
A Norwegian teenager has been cleared of DVD piracy charges in a landmark
trial brought by major Hollywood studios. The Oslo court said Jon Johansen had
not broken the law when he helped unlock a code and distribute a computer
program enabling DVD films to be copied.

No where is pirating software and music more prevelant than in Trinidad & Tobago. I can't believe how people ignore the copyrights of others. I have even found my own coding and graphic work on other people's sites. Can't believe it!

Software preserves DVDs, heats up copyright controversy
--------------------------------------------------
A two-year-old company from Chesterfield, Mo., has made copying DVD
movies to blank DVDs fast and simple. And in the process, it is
challenging motion picture studios for the legal right to do so. It
takes an hour or less on a fast computer, 90 minutes on a slower
computer. The copy includes not only the motion picture but any bonus
content on the original CD. And the quality is the same as the original
when burned to a DVD. It's comparable to VHS quality on video CDs. Last
year, 321 studios filed suit against motion picture studios seeking a
judgment that its software is legal. In December, seven studios answered
with a countersuit saying the software violates copyright law and should
be banned.
Stealing other peoples work for your own profit is not only illegal - it's pathetic and can only be done by narrow minded and humanly small people.
If you want quality you'll have to support the talented people creating it - or participate in the creation yourself and not support people making a living out of copying (read stealing) other peoples work.

You should ask that "officer of the law" if you could borrow his batch for copying. Then you could make a nice income from handing out parking-tickets... |
