Am I  the only one with the pre-historical dial up thing in here?

Nope, you are not the only one.  ;)  I wish I had anything better than dial-up right now.  But I'll have to make do with what I've got to use.  I was wanting DSL, but it is very, very expensive here.  I am looking into getting a cable modem, but I guess, Mississippi is way back in the day  ;)  lol  They aren't even prepared to start offering that service yet.  I am hoping that eventually they will get set up and then I can get it.  The ISP I use now, is pretty good, but I would rather have some to surf the net faster.  :smile.gif

what is dsl? I have just upgraded from dialup to one using an adsl modem --- broadband. Is that the same thing? Sometimes, it boggles my mind to think that it's the same phone line that I've been using for the dialup but it's many, many times faster now!  ;D

ADSL is a kind of or part of or type of DSL where the uploading and downloading speeds differ. There are also others like SDSL, HDSL, etc. ADSL is a broadband connection technology which uses the phone line with speeds 40x faster than a modem. Wish I had that :smile.gif

I use dial up at home sad.gif ...   and at work we have a T1 connection, so I am sooooo spoiled!  Things at home that take 5 minutes take just a few seconds at work.

One of these days, I'll get DSL of some kind.... when they drop the price below $30 a month.  Right now it's $50!! can you believe it??

Roz...  (on slooooowwww  dial up today !)

Yes, I can believe it, but I don't see why they should charge so much for it.  It's ridiculous.  Here the installation itself is $399 and then $49.99 a month.  Almost highway robbery.  :smile.gif

Imagine in Trinidad a simple DSL connection costs TT$640.00 per month for home use, that works out to be about US$110.00 per month! Now, who said there isn't modern day bandits in white shirts and ties?
