Corps Bird Visit

My Wife and I were in bed one night, when there was a sound against the window.
It was a loud flapping noise, not a bird, more like a Bat.
The Welsh have a tradition of this phenomenon it is called the "Corps Bird" or the "Aderyn Corff".
The spirit is an Omen of Death, heralded by its leathery wings.
As we don't fear Death we have no worries. Yet a loss is a part of life.
Does anyone else have a similar tradition?

I don't understand, are you saying it was a bird, it was a bat or you just heard the sound and do not know which it was?

In reality it was a bat hitting the window.
But what scares me is the Welsh Folk tradition that is attached to the event.
It is that of the "Corps Bird" a mythical creature that is supposed to be an omen of Death. Weather or not they exist, or just that the bat had an accident I don't know.

Visit Bird Corps

I have never heard of the story of the corpse bird, but I find the different traditions and theories really interesting.

At the end of my street there was once upon time a witch named Dolly (the street is called Dolly's Lane) and it is said that she used to curse whoever walked accross her land, and so there is a bit of a tradition that people tend never to use Dolly's Lane after dark.

I don't particularly believe in whitches however one time I was walking home and it was a 3 minute walk to my house down the lane but I felt a weird feeling and so doubled back and went the long way around to come to my street the opposite end.

These feelings can be strong and profound even if we don't consciously have a belief in them. The Sub-conscious is a powerful force.

Hope you are still alive and well after the visit of the corpse bird.

I have been thinking about some of these traditions and superstitions and wonder why they are generally all negative.

I could only think of 2 or 3 which wish you well. While there is thousands that can mean death or bad luck.

Death was very much a part of Life in the old days. I suppose Mortality was a strong part of the psych of every day life. The seeking of omens is the reflection of understanding the unknown and its chance of being. I am a Pagan, I have traditions and beliefs not held by the average man in the street; but I can rationalize and bow to reason. This doesn't mean that past ways of coping with Chaos still don't have a hold of my imagination.
