Can't Install Vista Windows Updates
If you have trouble Installing Windows Updates because it gives you the following message and have searched the internet to no avail:
You need to provide administrator permission - To complete this task you need to log on as an administrator or ask an administrator to complete the task for you.
Then logoff and logon as Administrator - the default password is blank.
* Go to Microsoft web site and download the Fix It program that clears Windows Updates so you start fresh.
* Set your clock for let's say 12:59pm and then set automatic updates for 1:00pm - when Windows has downloaded everything simply shut down and choose to install updates and it will do it. This will not solve you trying to do it manually but at least you are updating.
Alternate methods:* SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions -
Source 9 - This also allows you to have permissions set across board for Vista.
