[offtopic]@Mystic, yes this is true about the viruses. My friend also uses the original Kazaa and her husband downloads videos. He got a virus that infected their computer from a video he downloaded. The virus almost wiped out their whole system. I had to go over and do a complete system restore and install a better antivirus program than the one they were using.[/offtopic]
Thanks for the update Msslm, I am surprised Michael is speaking out against it, I thought he would be one of the defenders of it. Maybe he downloads too?
[offtopic]Msslm, did not know you were a computer tech too.[/offtopic]
Maybe he does download or maybe he is just wanting a little bit of the public spotlight to voice his opinion on it.
[offtopic]Jb, I have become quite knowledgable when it comes to computers, lately. It really depends on what's wrong with it on whether I can do anything with it or not. If I can't fix it, I can pick up the phone and my friend will talk me through fixing it, if it is repairable. :)[/offtopic]
I read about this on ABCNews.com.
KaZaA's Hemming Speaks Out
Elusive Software Exec Fires Back at Music Industry
S Y D N E Y, Australia, Aug. 11- Her company's technology may be dragging the entertainment industry, kicking and screaming, into a future of file swapping, but the entertainment industry would rather drag Nikki Hemming and her company into court.
Such is the pitched battle shaping up between recording companies and the tiny Australian software company. Maybe you've heard of it: Sharman Networks, the company that owns and operates KaZaA, the file-sharing network software that has become infamously associated with music piracy.
In a rare interview, CEO Nikki Hemming answered a host of questions about the challenges she faces running such a controversial company.
During the interview, Hemming also responded to a host of charges leveled against her by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), which has likened her to a bank robber.

After reading about it, I guess, they are going to make Kazaa a pay-to-download software. I guess I'll have to start getting my music the 'old fashioned way'. lol Going to the mall and buying the cd instead. :)

I also think that once they get all the file-sharing software companies, they will eventually go after the CD/DVD burner companies too. All I can say, is they need to stop all the madness and find some sort of middle ground that everyone can agree on. They are also showing commercials here, asking people to stop video/music piracy. Now, whether people choose to listen to what the commercial is saying is a different story all on its own.

Have you heard of BMG Music? |
As for the "illegal" distribution of music via Kazza, well, when ever we buy a blank CD we pay royalty fees to the music industry, At least we do here in Canada... so I do not see how it is any different than buying the CD... we just cut out distributors...
Also, many music stores and record labels have noticed a marked increase in sales since music was became freely shared over the net... Next question, what is the difference between sharing songs this way to copying buddies LP's and Cassettes to Cassette? Or like we used to do, record music off of the radio...
Long and short is I download music... if I like more than one song from an album I usually buy it... as for compilation cd's well I have a few... but even those I have made a CD say with music from one artist because I like it, then I have bought 3 or 4 of their CD's over the next couple of years...
I think it will all work out...
