Probably best to rename it to just Dungeons and Dragons because that's what its known by mostly especially on wizards.com. Maybe you will get more players that way too if they came before and didn't know what the deal was.
I have been toying with the idea of starting a old school D&D game. Where you do not have feats and each character class has its own tables for experiance. Where the best armor class is -10. I wonder how many people still have the first edition books and stuff. I know I have a lot of stuff for the first edition campaigns as that is what I played for the first 15 years I played D&D.
I think you'd be ahead to use one of the free retroclones that essentially Xerox redbox or BECMI or whatever it is called but it is it's own independent system because it is an original work even if it is quite obviously "inspired" (to put it mildly) by D&D.
OSRIC is one though it is closer to AD&D1 or 2, but Castles and Crusades, Tunnels and Trolls, Labyrinth Lord, Swords and Wizardry, Dark Dungeons and Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game are ones I recommend you look into as free PDFs to scratch the oldschool "Elf is a Class" itch for free.

Comments: My experience is that D&D is played based on how the group decides to play. In other words they are all variants. It isn't like Monopoly where you know the exact rule its more what fits for everyone. D&D just has so many different rules that its impossible to get them all right unless you're some kind of D&D Geek.
