Apples To Apples (Hover)
Apples to Apples is one of the very best games I have ever seen, for any age. It lays out a framework for people to really use their imaginations.
This is not a game for a very small group. You need a minimum of four players in order for it to work at all, and it is best with more than six.
One person is selected to start out as the judge for the first round of the game. This person then deals out seven red apple cards to each player. These red apple cards are specific, such as "Elvis Presley", "Los Angeles", or "table". I don't think they are necessarily nouns, either.
Then, the judge picks a green apple card, reads it out loud, and places it face up on the table. Each of the other players choose a card from their hands that they judge matches this green card. They place them face down on the table. Once everyone has placed their cards down, the judge mixes them up so that nobody knows who placed which card. The judge then reads each of them out loud then chooses the red card that most closely matches the green card. The person who placed that card down wins the round and gets the green apple card. The game is over when a certain score is reached, representing the number of rounds that people have won. If there are 4 players, the winning score is 8 rounds (green apples). If there are 8 players, then the score is 4 rounds.
This game is very fun, fast, and educational. It can easily provide hours of thoughtful entertainment. I highly recommend it.
