Games Sex and Violence

I believe that the ratings on games needs to be looked at. The fact that many of our younger kids are playing games that were meant for adults is leading down a path that is not good. We have kids who are acting out what they have done on a game and seeing nothing wrong with what they did. We as a society need to make changes for our childrens sakes. We need someone to monitor the use of violent games and movies that are being watched and played by kids as young as 6 or 7. If we do not our society will continue its downward spiral.

I agree that the rating system should be revamped. They should also take a look at what type of violence and sex is being programmed into the games. I have more of an issue over the gratuitous sex than the violence. Some games are violent by nature and parents should be aware of that before allowing young children to play these types of games. But some games I have played have sexuality written in that have nothing whatsoever with the game play. In some games you are able to hire a prostitute for sex - nothing to do with the game just something to do on the side. What is the point? And why is it that the female characters are only dressed in skimpy, sexual outfits? Hello? They are way too exploitive with the female anatomy. More women are gaming these days and do not wish to always be portrayed as sex objects.

OK this post is pretty old and my guess is that it will stay for a long time because I believe that video games will only get worse with the advancement of technology. Things are looking more real now. I was one of those arcade people and I remember when Mortal Kombat first came out. Well to say shock is an understatement but I declared then that it was only the beginning. Many years later and we see that the violence has gotten more intense (as they say). Street Fighter was also one of those games that revolutionized video games. Many times you heard kids on the street imitating these moves on one another but then it was for fun. Street Fighter showed violence in a cartoonish way but people parts were not falling off. Yes it was basically people beating up one another but people still told themselves that it was just a video game. Now we have many war games where the object is to kill or be killed. This is where the line was crossed over for my part. I love video games and I played Quake in my day but Quake is child's play compare to these modern games. The bad guy is people like myself but on the other team? Quake was killing monsters and alien type creatures. Games like Brothers In Arms Hells Highway is set in the World War 2 era. So you guessed it, people killing people all in the name of country. We wonder why kids nowadays are violent? I personally feel that the powers that be are trying to justify and brainwash people about the wars that mankind has inflicted on one another with these video games.

P.S. I have not even mentioned the sex in video games, that is a whole other response.

Games Sex and Violence

I agree with you in everyway about the video games getting more and more violent. As technology comes out and they can make it look even more realistic it is put into a game format and the next generation of real life video game is born. I do not allow my kids to buy these type of video games. They did want them at one time but I got them hooked on rock band and guitar hero. Now they do not even ask to have these violent games. I do not even let their friends bring them over.

It is my opinion that society as a whole has let the video games become way too violent. Now society has the nerve to wonder why kids are acting out the way they are. Anytime you go to the movies or see a video game being played it is nothing but trash. The sex, violence and drug use in may of these formats has made kids numb from all of it. No wonder society as a whole is going down hill quickly.

But then again that is just my opinion.

From looking at the votes many think there is nothing wrong at all with it. Personally I guess everything has a limit. I do think some games go too far. Actually some of the best games I have played aren't very violent or have any sex stuff in it.
