Jail Smoking

QUOTE
He said the province must find an alternative source of nicotine for inmates.

Why? Prison is not a vacation, they need to realize that they may not enjoy the casual aspects of free life, such as smoking. The system was nice enough to provide nicotine patches, something that 'free' people who do not have health insurance must pay a lot of money for. They decided that wasn't good enough. Then they should be deprived of any nicotine, period. That is my opinion.

Smoking In Jail History & Civil Business Politics

They are in jail, why does it matter if the can smoke or not? Just take it away, no patch, no nothing. Smoking isn't a right, its a privilege they lost because they committed a crime.

Maybe they want prisoners to smoke so that they destroy their own lives through lung cancer and the myriad of other diseases smoking causes?

That may be true but diseases from smoking take a long time to develop in most cases. I think they just provide the cigarettes to keep order and peace between inmates. Can you imagine all these prisoners without cigarettes and experiencing withdrawal? They'd literally kill each other!

If the prisoners want to smoke I don't see a problem. As long as they are buying the smokes with their own money they worked for.

Then again smokes can become a form of currency in jail. So maybe banning them from jail is the best course of action.

Then again if you only allow those who work for the smokes to have them and enforce it. Prisoners will start to want to work so they can afford the smokes.

Possibly set up times every day that those who work are allowed to smoke.
