Sharapova Wins Wimbledon

This morning in London, England, Maria Sharapova, the up and coming tennis model upset #1 Serena Williams in straight sets 6-1 6-4 to win the Wimbledon title; her first Grand Slam, all at the tender age of 17. To say this was an upset is an understatement. Good to see someone other than one of the Williams sisters winning a Grand Slam event. Congratulations to the Russian teenage phenom!

I was shocked when I saw the results, personally I don't think the Russian girl is so good, I think the Williams are becoming more and more distracting and not focusing seriously in the game. They are too concerned about their fashion, TV, acting career that they seem to have lost a lot of professionalism. One of them said that before she used to play for fun and that's why she used to win so much but now she is doing it because is her career and she hates to lose, maybe she forgot to have fun in the field, like McEnroe said lately about the new tennis players.

I watched Sharapova's matches against Davenport and Sugiyama and I do think she is this good. Davenport, who has battled injuries, looked her best this year and Sharapova was able to beat her. I havent seen the Williams final, but I hear it was very lopsided in Sharapova's favor and from the score it sure does seem that way. With respect to the Williams sisters, I believe injury has been the main cause of their slump more so than distractions.

Nah, I don't think are the injuries, have you seen how concerned are about the way they look and what kind of outfits they wear or not on the field?. They are partying a lot, something that they used to not do too much, maybe they are getting tired of tennis and want a normal life.

Wow LDS, you are very adamant that the Williams sisters have let the finer things in life interfere with their tennis careers! Are you sure you dont have a greater dislike for Sharapova or for the William sisters than you are letting on? tongue.gif Will you discredit what Sharapova has done in Wimbledon solely on the Williams' sister' lack of concentration? I think she deserves more credit than that. She didnt even have to play Venus at all to get to the Finals.

Dress for success

Sharapova dressed in a red outfit and long earrings in defending her title at the U.S. Open.

Pretty hard to believe she could play with that outfit, isn't it?

(This is the second message I've tried to post an image using the IMG button and it fails. Any suggestions?)
