Good suggestion - I should have added Christmas Carols or Music. I cannot put 'Parang' because this is in the general section not the Trini section. Not everyone will know what is parang. Let me see if I can add it as Christmas music.

[Later]
Oppssss....
I have a limit of 10 items set so won't be able to add it, but next time around.

First of all.  Please change my vote.  I selected "Thinking of all the gifts I have to get."  I thought that meant all the gifts I have to buy for others which is what I think of first, but I see that answer right below it.  Can you change it to refect what I meant?  Is that possible?

Now, having said that.  Isn't it sad that the first thing I think of is all the shopping I have to do?  It isn't fun and adds an incredible amount of stress to this holiday season.  Because it is the first thing I think about doesn't mean that is the most important thing, but apparently that is where my focus ends up being.  Sad, but true.  I feel like I have to buy gifts for all my neices and nephews and my son and grandson, parents, etc.  It is what is expected and I always try to do what is expected. ;D

In fact my favorite part of this holiday is the giving.  Not the receiving, but I really enjoy buying something for someone that I think they will derive some joy from and maybe think of me.  I think that is part of why we give gifts at Christmas.  The biggest gift we will ever receive in our lives is the atonement and so when we are celebrating the birth of the one who atoned for us, we give to others as he gave to us.  With this logic, though, it seems it would make more sense to give our gifts at Easter.  smile.gif

Sorry votes are locked in time wink.gif

By the way, I do not know why I have this thread in the General Section, maybe it is because we did not have a Religious Beliefs, Languages and Traditions board yet, but that is where it is going. wink.gif

Christmas, or Xmas?

A bit of Christmas trivia - the x in xmas isn't the x in the English alphabet but is the Greek letter chi.  Chi was a symbol for Christ.

Yes, the music is a great part of Christmas.  Any Mannheim Steamroller fans?

My favorite part though has to be the wonder in the eyes of children when they look at all the lights and glitter etc.

Thanks for the enlightenment, but I do seriously doubt that people see the 'X' as representing that. For me I just see it as an easy way to shorten a long word on a poster. Maybe it is just me. However, what about you SofiaTucker, what are your views in teaching about Santa to kids, etc?

By the way, welcome back for a sec there I thought you wanted to be deleted.

Sorry,  I'd have to be honest.  When someone says christmas i think of Santa and presents....but i dissagree with it being called x-mas.  You can't take the Christ out of christmas, hes the whole reason for it.

Yo JB, i love that quote by President Hinkley ya have there.  Its so uplifting.  This christmas I'm gonna especially try and remember christ the most.  Thanks smile.gif
