The Spirit Of Prediction / Paranormal

The spirit of prediction, seeking super human abilities, and the paranormal, are these things harmless fun or are they putting those practicing such at odds with God?
What the Bible has to say.

international QUOTE
Deut. 18:10-12: "There should not be found in you anyone who . . . Employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah." Lev. 19:31: "Do not turn yourselves to the spirit mediums, and do not consult professional foretellers of events, so as to become unclean by them. I am Jehovah your God."

What is the LDS view?

The reference for the scriptures you are quoting can be found here: Source 8 we only use the King James Version in this Board for LDS Based Discussion so that should read:

international QUOTE (Deut. 18:10-12)
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer .

12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Please use the KJV for any future questions or input you may have. Now to answer your question, Mormons do not believe in consulting fortune tellers, palm readers and these things as a means to decipher one's future or get information about how one should live their life.

I will comply, and use the KJV Bible for my scriptural quotations on this board if I may be allowed to also site the same scriptures from other translations since I and others may not be familiar with some of the old English terms such as "necromancer".

JB, I have to admit ignorance as to a expression you"ve used elsewhere on the boards

international QUOTE
The Spirits confirmation
can you expand on that expression for me please?

Please have a read here: Source 7 fully to understand what this Board is about and sources that are allowed to be used.

Without knowing where you took the three words out of a quote I will have to assume that I was talking about the Holy Ghost confirming truth about whatever was being Discussed. This is a very basic belief within Mormonism. The Holy Spirit is not considered paranormal or like a spook ghost but a member of the godhead as in Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

The expression

international QUOTE
The Spirits confirmation
you used was in reply to the topic: Is There Life After Death. It was the third numbered item. I've never heard the expression before, so I thought it was something particular to LDS doctrine

That is the second Post in the Thread in the General Religious Studies Board and it has a link ID (Post ID: 21070). Every Post has a link number just look for it, so in this case this: Source 1 goes straight to it. In that Post I was saying that such things as Near Death Experiences, Christ, the Spirit (uppercase Spirit refers to the Holy Ghost) all point to there being an afterlife and death is not final.

The Spirit Prediction / Paranormal

The LDS Church is against the same things the Bible has stated. However and in my own opinion, it is possible for people to have gifts others consider "paranormal".

Miss Liahona I'm curious, what are these gifts you speak of?
Are they the same as those listed in the Bible ? Are they new? Or are they a combination of both? Could You please elaborate as to what exactly some of these gift may be?
