Comments: I was invited by my neighbor, a regular Mormon, to attend one of his Sunday worship services. I agreed mostly out of curiosity. He told me that today they have a testimony meeting where all the members testify about what they believe. I thought that would sound interesting to hear actual members speak rather than the priest or pastor whatever the head man for the Mormons is called. Anyway so I listen and I was a bit taken back that almost every testimony given sounded almost the same. They talked about different things but said it in much the same way like they were rehearsed on how to say it. I was expecting to hear something more convincing like a spiritual experience or divine intervention in the person's life but I didn't get that at all. I just heard a lot of people saying they know the Mormons are right, some did that with tears too but they really didn't say how they came to that conclusion. This made me wonder if its just something Mormons rehearse and then get up to say like a ceremony.

Some Members may get into a routine of what they should say but they are essentially told to just share how they feel not what others feel or say. After awhile as a Member it may seem repetitive because the next person follows the cue of the last person that shared their testimony and so forth. Members may then become complacient about what they say but the Authorities of the Church try to teach what Testimony should be about. Testimony meeting is supposed to be Christ centered and spiritually uplifting and not on other things like what they did during the week, who they love / like and other secular things that do not build faith.

It reminds me of the scripture that talks about "repetitive prayers". I don't think is a good practice. I think a testimony should come out from the heart and the words used the ones we FEEL at the moment, not the ones we hear repeat over and over.

Comments: There is a cultist way in which testimonies are given. We hear people get up and say almost the same thing... "They know...", "Without a doubt...", "The Book of Mormon is true..." but really do they know these things as fact? No they don't. Many Mormons do not even know their own history.
