Man Wakes From 19-Year Coma, Speaks to Family
Mountain View, AR (LifeNews.com) -- Terry Wallis fell into a coma 19 years ago following an automobile accident, but surprised his family and doctors June 12 by waking from it and speaking. He was able to talk a day later and has been speaking more and more since. Angilee Wallis says her sons recovery from the coma is a miracle. "I couldn't tell you my first thought, I just fell over on the floor,'' she said. Mary Jane Owen, the director of the National Catholic Partnership on Disability, told LifeNews.com, "I rejoice that his family had the patience to keep on loving him and recognizing that there was someone there, even when others might have killed him prematurely."

The interesting thing about this story is that the guy can remember the conversations the people around him were having when he was in coma. His mother asked him who is the President of the United States and he said 'Ronald Reagan' he is stuck on time since the accident was in the 80's.
Also he may have some brain damage which the doctors were expecting, the mother also said that his son has changed a lot, she mentioned that a woman doctor asked him what he wants, and the guy answered 'make the love to me' :
The mother said she was very embarrased about it but that she thinks all is part of the damage he suffered in these 19 years.

This is why I always tell people not to pull the plug on me. How do we know what people are aware of while they are in a coma? How do we know they will never recover? I am sure no one ever expected this guy to "wake up."

I think it is incredible that his wife is still married to him after all these years. She must be an incredible woman. He was 19 when he had the accident. I imagine she wasn't much older and may have been younger. Many people much older and more mature than she was at the time of the accident would have divorced him and attempted to "get on with their lives."
