US Tax Tea Parties
What are your thoughts about the US Tax Tea Parties to protest the high tax rate?
First off, the tea parties are not just about high tax rates. They are really about the actions of the government in taking over the banks, insurance companies, car companies and paying off peoples mortgages. It started with one anchor on CNN complaining about not wanting his tax dollars to go towards paying peoples mortgages when they really shouldnt have been able to get a loan in the first place, but do to our governments easing of regulations and laws that forced mortgage companies to take risks with clients...we find ourselves in this situation and people are mad. The anchor called for a tea party and the idea took off.
Does it work. Well, if there is coverage of all the tea parties and the politicians see how many people are there...then it will have an effect on how they and the Obama administration proceed.
I think it is great that we live in a country where we can do this. PARTY ON!

What I am seeing reported about the tea parties is particularly informative.
There is a video of a CNN reporter harassing the protesters.
The New York Times and Boston Globe didn't even mention the tea parties.
Maryland National Guard units were warned to watch for violent protests, days beforehand.
NBC reporters and commentators were particularly rude and vile in their discussions about the tea parties. They used sexual innuendo to denigrate the participants.
You can see several links about the tea parties here.
As Vincenzo pointed out, it was and is about much more than just the high taxes. It is about the fact that the current administration is expanding on the previous administration's extremely dangerous economic policies. It is about the regular people who are fed up with big government encroaching more and more on our lives.
President Bush and President Obama are both basing their policies on Keynesian economic theory, when it has been shown very clearly to be extremely flawed. People are beginning to see just how flawed that theory is, and how dangerous it is for us.

I am a big supporter for the tea parties. I think we need to send a very clear message to the local, state and federal governments that we as tax payers have had it. I careless if some idiot with the times or NBC think we are ignorant because they are just showing us how ignorant they are for listening to the governments propaganda.
CNN 'journalist' shows true colors
A truly amazing piece of audio -- a CNN reporter (using that phrase very, very loosely) interviewing a man with his child, and seemingly personally offended that someone could actually criticize the government spending that's going on. She demonstrates her complete lack of understanding of history and instead reveals her pro-Obama views as she calls the protests 'anti-government,' 'anti-CNN' and the best for last... 'it's not family viewing.' Huh? Ref. Source 5
I call it something else, but I not permitted to type it here. The top 1% of earners in the US pay 50% of the $2 Trillion USD take by the IRS. The top 30% (approx $110k USD) earners pay 80% of the haul by the US government. The bottom 50% of earners pay 3% of the overal take.
Most stadiums are switching from astroturf to natural grass. Might be a bit like the spirit of the tea parties.

Since Ms. Pelosi got everything wrong about it, I have to assume that she did it on purpose.
Very few, if any, of the tea party participants want to go to the "failed economic policies" under President Bush. If one were to actually talk to the participants, they would find that most of them do not agree with the Bush bailouts, or with the government intrusion into business.
She, Harry Reid, and other liberal leaders are scared because they know that this truly is a grassroots movement. These were not organized demonstrations similar to those seen for the last several years from Code Pink and other left-wing extremist groups. These were simply people who took time off from work to join together to get their opinions into the public discussion. These were not paid agitators such as the unions use when they strike (and protest) against companies. Nor were they "professional" demonstrators such as those used by the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, the anti-war groups, etc.
They weren't even necessarily anti-Obama. President Obama is just the face of encroaching socialism and fascism.
It is obvious to me, having read a few newspaper forums about the tea parties that most of the people who are putting the tea parties down have not even tried to find out what they were about. Ms. Pelosi is obviously one of those.
