Pope: True Peacemakers Defend Human Life From Abortion
In a new statement that, ironically, was delivered on the day of tragic school shootings in the United States, Pope Benedict XVI said that true peacemakers are those who work to defend human life from abortion. True peacemakers, the pope said, "are those who love, defend and promote human life in all its dimensions."
In his annual message for the World Day of Peace Jan. 1, Pope Benedict said he is concerned about continued attacks on human dignity and human rights, including from abortion, euthanasia and attempts to restrict religious freedom on pro-life issues, like the Obama administration's HHS mandate. Catholic Relief Services Denies Promoting Abortion-Causing Drugs
In our month-long, on-the-ground investigation of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) activities in Madagascar, Population Research Institute (PRI) found that the organization was directly involved in the promotion and distribution of contraceptive and abortifacient drugs and devices in contravention of Church teaching. Pope Francis: Catholic Church Must Minister More to Women After Abortion
While not compromising the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church or watering them down by saying they should be emphasized any less, Pope Francis said the Catholic Church must do more to minister to women who have had abortions.
The mainstream media today has misrepresented the Pope's abortion views in a wide-ranging new interview, suggesting he is saying the Catholic Church should downplay it's pro-life teachings. What Pope Francis did say is that the Catholic Church should simultaneously speak out against abortion while providing hope and healing for women who have them and see their lives destroyed by their abortions. Former Abortion Practitioner Lays His Surgical Instruments at the Feet of the Pope
The pro-life movement is filled with former abortion practitioners who have experienced a monumental change of heart. Many have converted to Christianity, become pro-life, and some now work as legitimate doctors or become associated with pregnancy centers providing women with tangible abortion alternatives.
Dr. Antonio Oriente is one such former abortion practitioner. He so genuinely wanted to receive forgiveness for his involvement in the abortion industry that, recently, he brought the surgical instruments he used to take the lives of unborn babies in abortions and laid them at the feet of Pope Francis. Radical Activists Attack Catholic Bishops on Abortion
In the past few days, there has been a rash of attacks on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) from left-wing circles. Led by an extremist pro-abortion website, rhrealitycheck.org, these activists are trying to silence the bishops: the USCCB is fighting for the conscience rights of Catholics against the health care policies of the Obama administration.
Noting that the Congress is considering a Continuing Resolution and debt ceiling bill, the bishops, led by Sean Cardinal O"Malley and Archbishop William E. Lori, are seeking to incorporate this right into such "must-pass" legislation. Ref. Source 7
Archbishop Chaput: Right to Life is Still the Foundational Human Right
It's not a secret to anyone that I am a huge admirer of Philadelphia Archbishop Charles J. Chaput. He is a graceful writer who is able to pack an amazing amount in insight into his weekly columns for "Catholic Philly."
I particularly enjoyed his thoughts and reflections this week on "Living the Gospel of Life: A Challenge to American Catholics." Ref. Source 5
Pope Tells America: Time to Reject Abortion and Accept Life at Every Stage
The same day that he was chosen as TIME magazine's Person of the Year - Pope Francis exhorted North and South America to "accept human life at every stage, from the mother's womb to old age."
Amid misinterpretations of the pontiff's pro-life stance in the mainstream media, the Holy Father continues to affirm his unwavering belief, completely united to that of the Catholic Church, that human life is sacred from conception to natural death. Ref. Source 7
