Did they get him? Was he cooky, playing a prank or really intended on doing this? Now you mentioned he made online threats, so he was sending emails |

No, he was not sending e-mails he was posting around LDS forums and message boards about how he was going to kill Pres. Hinckley. |
Local Man Arrested for Following Prophet
SALT LAKE CITY--A restraining order has been issued to keep local resident Doug Atwater at least 300 yards away from LDS Church president Gordon B. Hinckley at all times. Atwater claimed he was only doing what he had learned in Primary, to which the Salt Lake district attorney replied, "Did they tell you to follow him in a Lincoln Towncar with the lights off?" Atwood admitted they had not, but he added, "They never said I couldn't, either." Neither the church nor Atwater were available for comment.
Ref. The Sugar Beet
I don't think this is a real story. Sugar beet is a satire magazine that makes fun of LDS things, it is run by LDS members by the way so their stories are all fake but because of all the things that are so commonly happening to the Prophet and other Church leaders, they (Sugar Beet) can have the freedom to even make jokes about it.
