Venezuelan Embassy Vandalised

I hope they catch the criminals who did this. I am not sure what are the laws concerning these sort of crimes in Trinidad but burning a flag is a serious offense in most countries.

international QUOTE
POLICE were yesterday called to the Venezuelan Embassy at Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain, to search the building for explosives after intruders vandalised parts of the property and desecrated the Venezuelan flag.

Venezuelan Ambassador Maria Marcano was particularly upset when she saw her country's flag damaged. The flag was removed from a pole at the front entrance and burnt.

Pieces of dried palm branches and cardboard were also burnt in front of a bronze bust of Simon Bolivar, the military and political leader who helped Venezuela gain independence from the Spanish empire in 1821.

Telephone wires in a panel box at the side of the building were also destroyed by the suspect,
who gained access to the premises by jumping over a fence.

Marcano said, "I feel very disappointed, hurt and very sad. This is an embassy that has been doing beautifully with the Venezuelan and Trinidadian community, and this is a stupid thing because they are going to delay our normal development for a few days. This is really stupidness. It doesn't make any sense."

She added, "We are not alone and anything that happens, we must be united against crime and that is my point. We must be united, and it makes me very happy to see that we are not alone here in Trinidad. I think with the crime situation; we must be united and must be against those organisations that are destroying everything. We are going to fight against that...

Maybe someone had a bad experience in Venezuela and wanted to express their feelings. Why do I think this has something personal with the staff their though? Maybe its just a cover for something else.

The burning of the flag suggests to me that "they" were denied visas to the country. It may also appear that the staff at the embassy were threating customers badly

I was disgusted when I read the news. I think they were probably a couple of intoxicated teenagers doing nonsense. They need a lesson though.
