Toshiba launches tablet to challenge iPad
Toshiba is hoping to lure consumers to its new tablet computer by including a screen that is slightly larger than the iPad and offering a version of Google's Android mobile operating software geared toward such devices. Ref. Source 3

This looks interesting. I am a bit disappointed however that there isn't much information out about it right now. I would like to know what exactly the benefits are for this over the iPad, and the iPad 2 once it comes out. Cost wise they are the same (iPad is $499 correct? Please correct if I am wrong) so this will have to be considerably better than the iPad if Toshiba wants to do well in the market. The iPad already has hundreds of thousands of apps available and that is something Toshiba, I believe, will struggle to compete with.
They haven't put out pricing info for the Toshiba 10" yet, but it is expected to be very close to the iPad with more features.

This is a pretty good list of the fruit company's competition. I would be more interested in the Toshiba Libretto concept with the dual touch screens. But in general, I really don't like typing on the touch screen...just doesnt feel right.
I couldn't agree more with ESD1, I don't understand the point of the iPad or technology like this...
Why not get a computer?
With a computer you can do more, and is faster and more customizable. I understand maybe an average computer lacks the size and touch features, but if you want the touch, you can probably get a touch monitor. I personally would just rather have a notebook or laptop.
