San Diego has a larger department budget per firefighter - $210,600 - than any of the other top 15 cities in the country, according to a survey and analysis by The Watchdog. Interesting that the rolling brown outs are interfering with the ability to respond to emergency calls. I do not know how they are set up for communications but one would think a standby generator could be added to the battery back up on critical response systems!

I saw how much they make per year on average and I almost thought for just a brief second about applying to be a firefighter. Then I thought about the heat of the flames and how I hate heat so I stayed put in my nice air conditioned office.
I think that many firefighters and others in California are paid a lot because of the living expenses there.
New Mission Valley fire station opens

The San Diego firefighter who made $210,000 in overtime in 2014 was not even in the top 5 statewide for fire safety overtime. One Los Angeles firefighter earned $286,536 in overtime, bringing his total wages for the year up to $400,283. Ref. Source 8z
