Jacksonville man dies after pulled from wreck by passing daughter-in-law

A Jacksonville man died from injuries he suffered in an accident Thursday after a passing motorist, identified by police as his daughter-in-law, pulled him from his pickup truck before it burst into flames.
Thomas A. McCary, 58, of 14340 Boney Road, was driving north on Boney Road a block from his home when the vehicle drifted off the road for an unknown reason. McCary overcorrected the vehicle, which began to slide sideways and went off the opposite shoulder.

Mayor's aide refused breath test in DUI arrest, say police

A Jacksonville City Hall spokesman refused a breath test the night he was charged with DUI, the police chief for Hampton in Bradford County said Tuesday.
Abel Harding, communications director for Mayor Alvin Brown, was arrested Saturday night after being stopped for speeding on U.S. 301, Chief John Hodges said.
"We didn't know who he was. Of course, it wouldn't matter. If he's DUI, he goes to jail," Hodges said.
Refusing a breath test in Florida results in a one-year suspension of a driver's license.

Charged with murder, Jacksonville woman says she was tired of being talked down to

A Jacksonville woman with a history of suicide attempts said she shot her husband in the head because she was tired of him talking down to her, the Sheriff?s Office said following her transfer from Georgia to Florida.
Darcie Lynn Riggle, 41, had been taken into custody after driving erratically in Homerville, Ga., late Wednesday.

UNF Women's Center to hold Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities tonight

A march, candle lighting ceremony and public comment session will be held tonight at the University of North Florida Women's Center to observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The "Take Back the Night" event will be held at 7:30 p.m.
The march will be from the UNF residence hall Osprey Crossing to Osprey Plaza at the Student Union, followed by the candle-lighting ceremony and 'speak out session," according to the release.

Friday accidents in Jacksonville and Clay County leave 2 dead

The identities of two people killed Friday morning in accidents have been released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Patricia Leigh Miller, 39, of Jacksonville was struck and killed at 6 a.m. on Normandy Boulevard near Herlong Airport. Miller was walking in the left lane when a Dodge Ram pickup driven by 61-year-old Frank Yacovoni of Jacksonville came up behind and tried to avoid her, but didn't, the Highway Patrol said.

U.S. says Iran involved in plot to assassinate Saudi ambassador

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Justice Department on Tuesday accused elements of the Iranian government of being involved in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States, and Attorney General Eric Holder said the U.S. would hold Iran accountable.
Two people, including a member of Iran's special operations unit known as the Quds Force, were charged in New York federal court. Holder said the bomb plot was a flagrant violation of U.S. and international law.

Missing Jacksonville man sought

The Jacksonville Sheriff?s office is looking for the public?s help in finding Robert Scott Monteith, a 40-year-old man last seen by co-workers on Wednesday night as he left his job at the Pizza Hut off North Main Street.
Monteith was seen about two hours later on the corner of Wells Road and Blanding Boulevard, getting money out of an ATM. But he has not been seen or heard from since.
