Multiple accidents with injuries on Interstate 95 at St. Johns County Road 210

Two people have been sent to Shands Jacksonville hospital following an automobile accident earlier today on Interstate 95 at County Road 210 in St. Johns County.
St. Johns County fire officials said one of the patients was in serious condition following the multi-vehicle accident. The Sheriff's Office reported that traffic was heavily congested in the area, and an air ambulance had been sent to the scene. Motorists should seek alternate routes around the area, including Philips Highway/U.S. 1 to the east or Florida 13 to the west.

Middleburg man sentenced to 10 years in drunken crash that killed passenger

A Clay County man who was driving drunk in a crash that killed his passenger on Old Kings Road in Jacksonville pleaded guilty last week to DUI-manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Milton Lee Minier, 25, of Middleburg was allowed to withdraw his previous plea of not guilty in his Nov. 14 deal with prosecutors.

'Craigslist' Jacksonville murder trial opens with admission by defendant

The 20-year-old's trial began this morning with his defense team conceding Sparre stabbed the victim to death in her apartment in July 2010. The two met after the defendant saw the 21-year-old victim's personal ad on Craigslist, where she said she was looking to meet new people.

Candlelight vigil set for Saturday night to remember 13-year-old boy

A candlelight memorial for hit-and-run accident victim Brien Alvezios will be held at 9:40 p.m. Saturday in a field near the Brannanfield Road and Trail Ridge Road site where the 13-year-old boy was killed on Nov. 26.
The Clay County student was hit near Middleburg by a hit-and-run driver in what the Florida Highway Patrol believes was a 2005 to 2010 model Jeep Grand Cherokee. It suffered damage to its right front side near the headlight, and the Highway Patrol is still seeking that driver.

Teen arrested in shooting at Jacksonville park

Jacksonville police arrested a 17-year-old suspect in Thursday's shooting during a skirmish at Brentwood Park. A stray bullet wounded a woman who had taken young children to the park.
Kavon Marquise Green is charged with attempted murder, the Sheriff's Office said.
Police were called about 3:30 p.m. to the West 21st Street park beside Brentwood Elementary School after several shots were fired into a crowd. Witnesses said it was during a fight that started over a previous altercation.
