Jacksonville police find woman, do not believe abduction occurred

Jacksonville police have found a woman who had been reported abducted. Spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda said the woman was found at a local hospital Tuesday and ?there is no reason to believe that an abduction occurred.? The homicide unit was called to the 1600 block of Linares Way, according to an alert sent a little before 11 a.m. Check back for updates on Jacksonville.com and in Wednesday?s Times-Union.

Here is the full report for Nov. 22-28: Thefts Nov. 22 An unattended iPod was stolen from the ladies room at Walmart on Branan Field Road, Middleburg. During a party, a Colt Delta Elite 10mm pistol with six rounds in the magazine and a Xbox were stolen from a residence on Mercury Drive, Orange Park.

Shots fired at Jacksonville motel room; men involved give one story, video shows another

Four men claim a gunman toting a submachine gun ordered them to strip and then robbed them early Sunday in a room at the Executive Inn at 6560 Ramona Blvd. One of the men told police that a gunman shot at him but missed as he fled the Westside motel room. A bullet pierced a bathroom occupied by a woman in a Budget Inn across the street, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office.

SCLC calls for repeal of Stand Your Ground in light of Jacksonville case

Friday, leaders of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference joined with the father of slain 17-year-old Jordan Davis to call for repeal of Florida?s Stand Your Ground law. The number of justifiable homicide cases in Florida has tripled in the five years the law has been in place, said the Rev. R.L. Gundy, Southern Christian Leadership president for Jacksonville and Florida. ?We need to repeal the law because it has gotten out of hand,? he said.

Tow truck driver killed when pickup rolls over him in Clay County

A Keystone Heights tow truck driver was killed Monday night when he was trapped beneath a pickup truck he was towing to a home on Sams Lane in Middleburg, according to the Clay County Sheriff?s Office. Napoleon Ballard III was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m. after paramedics and deputies converged on the scene, according to the Sheriff?s Office.

Jacksonville chief deputy general counsel appointed judge in St. Johns County

Jacksonville?s chief deputy general counsel, Howard Maltz, was appointed Friday by Gov. Rick Scott to replace Circuit Judge Wendy Berger, who recently selected for the 5th District Court of Appeal. Maltz, 51, who resides in St. Johns County, has been with the General Counsel?s Office for 15 years, the last year as chief deputy. He handled many high-profile cases for the city, including representing the Sheriff?s Office in multiple police shooting lawsuits. He had been an assistant state attorney for 10 years.

Jacksonville police investigate shoot-out near Post and Edgewood

An apparent shoot-out left a quiet Jacksonville street littered with spent shells Tuesday morning, although neither gunman nor any neighbors in the 1000 block of Nelson Street were hit in the brief rain of bullets, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office. Police said the shoot-out occurred about 10 a.m. in front of a home in the Lackawanna area, one bullet apparently piercing a parked trailer on the street. Nine evidence markers were laid next to spent shell casings in a driveway, street and lawn by an officer as detectives questioned residents.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ? A homeowner, her boyfriend and the boyfriend?s brother have been charged with murder in connection with a house explosion in Indianapolis that killed two people, destroyed five homes and damaged dozens more, a prosecutor said Friday.
