Woman who posed as state worker to kidnap baby could get 40 years
A woman who police say posed as a child welfare worker to kidnap an infant from his immigrant parents in Jacksonville's Westside could face up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty on Monday. Law & Disorder: 18-year-old shot, killed during argument; suspect arrested
An evening argument Oct. 30 escalated to gunfire in the 1500 block of West 15th Street in Jacksovnille, leaving 18-year-old Tevin Davonte Riggins dead.
Police have arrested 21-year-old Zevulon Alvin Palmer in the killing. The U.S. Marshals Service tracked him down Friday night in the 900 block of Fifth Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Riggins was found with two gunshot wounds to the stomach and one to the chest. Witnesses told police that he had been seen arguing with Palmer, who then pulled a gun from his waistband and fired five shots. Ref. Source 8
Woman still missing after morning search in St. Johns County
St. Johns County authorities say they are following up on new leads for a missing woman after she did not turn up during a Friday morning search of a wooded patch along State Road 206.
Rebecca Ware's family contacted police several weeks ago after learning she was not showing up for work.
St. Johns County Sheriff's spokesman Chuck Mulligan said authorities suspect foul play, but he could not say more about the ongoing investigation. Ref. Source 8
Kings Bay sailor arrested on child p-rn charges
Kingsland Police have arrested a Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base sailor on possession of child p-rn-graphy charges.
John David Martin, 29, of St. Marys, is accused of having 114 pornographic images of children under the age of 18 on a laptop computer, police said.
Martin was identified as a possible suspect by online activity that police described as searches for pornographic images or videos of children. The Kingsland Police and the Naval Criminal Investigation Service arrested Martin on Friday after they tracked a computer address to a residence at base housing, police said. Ref. Source 5
Brunswick woman left tied up 12 hours after armed home invasion
BRUNSWICK - Police are looking for two men who bound and gagged a woman at her home, burglarized the residence and left her restrained until co-workers found her more than 12 hours later.
The 65-year-old woman went downstairs at her home in the 900 block of Egmont Street shortly after midnight Sunday and found two armed men, said Lt. Kevin Jones, spokesman for the Brunswick Police Department.
The victim told police the men tied her up and gagged her and burglarized her home before leaving. Ref. Source 7
Woman steals thousands of dollars Tuesday from North Jacksonville bank at gunpoint
A woman dressed in bright colors used a gun Tuesday to rob the Synovus Bank at 521 Airport Center Drive.
Police said a short, stocky African-American woman wearing a yellow and orange shirt and blue jeans with a colored bandana around her head walked in to the bank at 4:25 p.m. She confronted a teller with gun in hand and demanded money, and was given more than $11,000 before running through the parking lot to escape, according to the police report. Officers on foot, in the air and with a dog searched the area, but found no one. Ref. Source 9
