Report of shots fired at Texas college

Police are at Lone Star College in Houston responding to reports of shots fired, according to Fox News.
The Houston affiliate, KRIV FOX 26, reports the shots were fired at the college?s North Harris County campus.
The Facebook page for that campus posted the following message: ?SHELTER IN PLACE if you are on campus. IF YOU ARE NOT ON CAMPUS DON?T [sic] GO TO CAMPUS.?

SUV, pickup crash at Union and Ocean in downtown Jacksonville

The intersection of North Ocean and East Union streets in downtown Jacksonville were shut down about 3 p.m. Friday following a two-vehicle accident.
A Chevrolet Tahoe sport-utility vehicle and Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck apparently collided in the intersection, causing the pickup to roll on it driver?s side. At least one victim was taken to a hospital by paramedics.

Macon church fire was arson, fire marshal says

MACON, GA. | The state fire marshal?s office says investigators have determined that arson caused a blaze that gutted a church sanctuary in south Macon.
In a statement Tuesday morning, Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens? office announced the cause of the fire at Reaching Souls Cathedral of Praise Apostolic Church.

Ponte Vedra Beach handyman, 68, arrested on exploitation of elderly

A 68-year old Ponte Vedra Beach man was arrested Friday on a charge of exploitation of the elderly over $100,000 after a 91-year-old victim reported the theft of jewelry, coins and collectibles from his Governor?s Road home.
Wayne Joseph Dziadul of Bermuda Bay Circle was booked into the St. Johns County jail on a $25,000 bail, according to the Sheriff?s Office.

Man killed when he was hit by a tree limb in Jacksonville identified

An Atlantic Beach man killed by a falling branch when the crew he was with was clearing an Ortega Forest backyard has been identified.
Michael J. Urbaniak, 41, of the 300 block of Fourth Street was beneath a limb when it was cut during the cleanup work in the 4200 block of Ortega Forest Drive, the Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office said. He was hit in the head and died at the scene.
Urbaniak and two others on the crew were doing the work when the accident happened.

Jacksonville man convicted of murder after drug deal gone bad

A Jacksonville jury has rejected the suggestion that the shooting death of Jaspeth-Emanuel Bell was an accident.
Theodore ?Teddy? Moss III was convicted of first-degree murder and armed burglary with assault or battery. He faces life in prison when Circuit Judge Kevin Blazs sentences him next month.
Bell, 22, was shot in the head in April 2011 after Moss pistol whipped him in a car at The Oaks at Mill Creek on Monument Road. Moss and his lawyers acknowledged the defendant beat Bell, but claimed the gun went off accidentally.

No serious injuries in Jacksonville school bus crash

No one was seriously hurt but one student was transported to a hospital after a vehicle struck a Jacksonville school bus Tuesday.
Two of the three students on the bus were taken on to A. Philip Randolph Academies of Technology, a district spokeswoman said. The school principal went to Shands Jacksonville where the third student was taken.
The accident happened about 8 a.m. at Moncrief Road and 45th Street, said spokesman Tom Francis of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
No other details about the accident were immediately available.

Jacksonville man, 39, guilty in child sex crimes; will be sentenced to life

Young victims testifying this week against a 39-year-old Jacksonville man helped convince a jury to convict him of sexual battery and lewd or lascivious molestation of a child.
Clifton McNeil Brooks sexually abused a child over a few years starting when she was 7, the State Attorney?s Office said. After she told her mother and Brooks was arrested, two others victimized when they were young came forward and testified against McNeil.
Brooks will be sentenced to mandatory life in prison, the State Attorney?s Office said.
