1 dead when boat capsized at Little Talbot Island State Park

One person has died and a second survived when a boat capsized Tuesday afternoon at Little Talbot Island State Park.
About 2 p.m., a 19-foot boat with two adult men on board capsized about 200 yards off the beach, said spokesman Tom Francis of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. One managed to make it to shore and was taken to Shands Jacksonville with minor injuries. The second man, who died, and the boat washed to shore about 100 yards from where the boat overturned.

Jacksonville Beach man thought Boston photo might capture a piece of something big

Looking for friends in the crowds packed at the end of the Boston Marathon, David Green heard the first explosion and felt the concussion from the second.
In the confusion, the 49-year-old Jacksonvile Beach man pulled his cell phone and shot one photo.
It was a simple instinct that made him take the shot that may well be the most important one in his life.

Shootout off Lem Turner sends 1 to Jacksonville hospital

Police said one person suffered a head injury in a confrontation behind a strip of stores Tuesday in the 8900 block of Lem Turner Road.
Sgt. Bobby Lyle of the Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office said multiple individuals in two vehicles exchanged gunfire about noon.
Lyle said he didn?t know what the argument was about but that robbery was a possible motive. One man was taken to Shands Jacksonville hospital with a head wound.
The two vehicles, one possibly an SUV, left the scene.

Jacksonville police searching for man in swindling case

Jacksonville police have sent out a photo of a man who they say swindled an elderly woman by pretending to be a lawman.
An 82-year-old woman said two men acted like law-enforcement officers who were trying to combat identity theft. One showed a badge. They said they needed her to withdraw money at a Vystar Credit Union on Beach Boulevard and that she?d be rewarded $1,000 for her help.

FBI, GBI investigating water plant break-in

CHATSWORTH, GA. | The FBI, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and a sheriff?s department are investigating a break-in at a water treatment plant in the north Georgia mountains, authorities said.
About 400 water customers around the small community of Ramhurst have been ordered not to drink water following the Friday break-in at the Carters Lake Water Treatment Plant in Murray County. About 10 to 15 residents near the plant currently have no water at all, said Chatsworth Water Works manager Steve Smith.

Putnam teacher suspended over relationship with student .

A Putnam County teacher has been suspended without pay during an investigation of his relationship with a 15-year-old student. A recommendation that Austin Blane Johns? Suspension be continued until the end of the school year when his contract expires will be made at Tuesday?s School Board meeting, said James Padgett, attorney for the district.

27-year-old St. Augustine woman killed in Tuesday traffic crash

A St. Johns County woman was killed Tuesday when her vehicle swerved and rolled when she attempted to avoid a collision, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Two passengers, including a 2-year-old child, were not seriously hurt in the accident that killed 27-year-old Danielle L. Reeves, who was ejected in the 8:30 a.m. accident on U.S. 1 just south of Wildwood Drive in southern St. Johns County, the Highway Patrol said.

1 confirmed dead in I-295 accident in Jacksonville

A 55-year-old Jacksonville man died Friday morning after his vehicle was spotted in a retention pond at Interstate 295 and Philips Highway.
The accident occurred off the northbound lanes of the interstate when David Bradley Brown couldn?t handle the curve on the exit ramp and crashed into the pond, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
About 5:15 a.m. witnesses told troopers they believed they saw headlights in the pond and tire marks leading to the water, said Sgt. Dylan Bryan.
