1 confirmed dead in I-295 accident in Jacksonville

A 55-year-old Jacksonville man died Friday morning after his vehicle was spotted in a retention pond at Interstate 295 and Philips Highway.
The accident occurred off the northbound lanes of the interstate when David Bradley Brown couldn?t handle the curve on the exit ramp and crashed into the pond, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
About 5:15 a.m. witnesses told troopers they believed they saw headlights in the pond and tire marks leading to the water, said Sgt. Dylan Bryan.

Man wanted after police-involved shooting at Jacksonville International Airport surrenders

Rodney Lorenzo Addison, wanted since Wednesday?s police-involved shooting at Jacksonville International Airport, surrendered at the Police Memorial Building Friday.
Addison, 20, is charged with auto theft, possession of cocaine, fleeing and attempting to elude police, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

Man killed in Nassau explosion identified

The body of a 64-year-old man found inside a Yulee mobile home after an explosion Sunday has been identified.
Ronald Bruce Carden was found inside the mobile home at 85185 Tinya Road that exploded and caught fire about 1:20 a.m., according to the Nassau County Sheriff?s Office.
Authorities said there were multiple propane tanks around home and that some had exploded. The residence is located east of U.S. 17.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday, the Sheriff?s Office said.

Murder conviction for man charged in 2011 Jacksonville shooting death

A 23-year-old man was convicted Friday in the November 2011 shooting death of 19-year-old Terrell J. Holsey at West 14th and Barnett streets in Jacksonville, according to the State Attorney?s Office.Jurors found Marcus Everette Jackson guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He will be sentenced to life in prison.

Unlicensed day care operator charged in Jacksonville childs drowning

The unlicensed day-care operator overseeing a 2-year-old boy who fell in the home?s pool May 21 and died a couple days later has been charged in the case.Jan Marie Buchanan, 46, was booked Tuesday on charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child by culpable negligence and operating a day care without a license.Kiddie Heaven at 8337 Ireland Drive on Jacksonville?s website even had a website and Facebook that advertised its safe pool.

Man struck by JTA bus

A 61-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday when he was hit by a city bus about 10:40 a.m., according to Jacksonville police.A witness said the man was crossing West State Street just east of the city bus terminal at Laura Street when he was struck by a bus turning from Laura onto State.Al Lamb said he and a co-worker were cleaning up at the corner when they saw the accident. Lamb said the man was hit and by the time the bus stopped was at the rear wheels of the bus.

A 21-year-old Green Cove Springs man is being questioned following a Friday afternoon shooting incident in the 3300 block of Citation Drive in the Asbury Downs subdivision.Aaron F. Weaver, who lives on Citation Drive, was taken into custody after the incident, according to the Clay County Sheriff?s Office.
