Brantley County Man Pleads Guilty But Mentally In Two Deaths

BRUNSWICK | Raymond Michael Brasiel pleaded guilty but mentally ill Tuesday to murder in the stabbing deaths of two people on July 16 and  19 and aggravated assault for stabbing his first victim?s wife.After hearing the details of Brasiel?s mental health treatments, Superior Court Judge Roger B. Lane accepted the plea and sentenced Brasiel to consecutive life terms without parole for the murders of Bobby Lee Jenks and Amber Whited  followed by a 20-year sentence for the knife attack on Jenks? wife, Mickie.

Keeping A Cold Case Alive: Parents Return Five Years After Son Slain Outside Jacksonville Beach Waffle House

The Rev. Milton Batts arrived in Jacksonville Beach five years ago Sunday searching for answers into the execution-style slaying of his son hours earlier in the parking lot of a Beach Boulevard Waffle House.Batts, from Rocky Mount, N.C., said the many memories of that traumatic trip included first seeing his 1-year-old grandson Terrance as he stretched out his arms to be picked up. Batts said the child mistook him for his father, whom Batts resembled, but realized his mistake almost immediately.

12-year Sentence Ruled For Jacksonville Man In DUI Crash That Killed 45-year-old Woman

A Jacksonville man whose blood-alcohol level was nearly double the legal limit to drive when he killed 45-year-old Chantel Johnson on Atlantic Boulevard was sentenced this week to 12 years in prison, according to the State Attorney?s Office.Tirell Anthony Cross, 33, also will have three years of probation, 100 hours of community service and his license permanently revoked after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter.

Boating Deaths Are Lowest Nationally In Years But Not So In Florida Georgia

As the Memorial Day weekend opens the door to summer, statistics from the U.S. Coast Guard show recreational boating deaths in 2013 rose in Florida and Georgia at a time when the number of fatalities nationwide dropped to their lowest recorded number.Deaths in Florida rose from 50 in 2012 to 58 and in Georgia from 13 to 16. The numbers nationally dropped from 651 in 2012 to 560 last year.

Jacksonville police continue to search for an endangered Southside wife, whose husband and two dogs have also disappeared, neighbors said.Kimberly Dawn Mackey, 48, was last seen in the area of her single-wide mobile home in a large mobile-home community off Beach Boulevard near Hodges Boulevard.A reserve police officer in a marked Sheriff?s Office patrol car guarded her home in the 2700 block of Suni Pines Boulevard Friday morning. It was the second day neighbors said they noticed police activity around the home.

Nassau County Man Critically Wounded By Gunfire When Two Men Break Into His Home Friday

Two men broke into a Nassau County home early Friday and critically shot one victim before demanding money from his mother. The Sheriff?s Office said they also may be connected to a March home invasion and stabbing at a nearby residence.In the latest case the two were wearing panythose over their heads when they broke into a Callahan house in the 45100 block of Arline Road about 3 a.m. One of the men went to the victim?s room and shot him, the Sheriff?s Office said.He was in critical condition Friday. The second man went to the woman?s room and demanded money.
