The aunt of convicted baby killer De?Marquise Elkins pleaded guilty Friday to providing a false alibi for him as police investigated the fatal shooting of a 13-month-old boy.Katrina Elkins pleaded guilty to making a false statement to officers for saying De?Marquise, who is now serving what is likely a 105-year-sentence, was at her house playing games on her computer at the time Antonio Santiago was shot in the face by a youth who tried to rob his mother on a Brunswick street, District Attorney Jackie Johnson said.

Police are searching for the man who robbed the 121 Financial Credit Union at 8101 Normandy Blvd. early Tuesday.The man walked into the credit union at 9:25 a.m. and told a teller to give him all of her money, Sgt. David Smith said.?He reached around behind him and indicated that he had a weapon,? Smith said. ?No weapon was displayed. She complied and he fled the area on foot.?

The Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office is looking for the public?s help in finding a man after a Sept. 11 burglary at the Stonebridge Condominiums at 7990 Baymeadows Road.At around 3:20 a.m., the man is seen on security camera video lurking suspiciously around the condominium?s fitness center, according to the Sheriff?s Office. At around 4 a.m., the man returns wearing a different outfit and is seen entering the fitness center. He is seen a few minutes later leaving the area carrying a flat-screen television.

Middleburg Man Killed In Fiery Sunday Crash In Jacksonville

A man killed early Sunday when his car slammed into a parked and empty pickup truck on Interstate 295 near Duval Road has been identified as 31-year-old Mark Andrew Ward of Middleburg, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.Ward was driving his Pontiac G6 north on the interstate at 4:30 a.m. when he approached a disabled Dodge Ram abandoned in the right emergency lane, the Highway Patrol said. For unknown reasons, he moved into the emergency lane and rear-ended the truck. The impact shoved the Dodge about 100 yards as the Pontiac spun and overturned, the Highway Patrol said.

Woman Shoots Self In Accidental Shooting In Jacksonville

An Arlington woman was hospitalized Friday afternoon after she accidentally shot herself in her leg while cleaning out her husbands pants in their home in the 5200 block of Burdette Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office.The woman, said to be in her 60s, picked up her husband?s pants and shook them at about 1:15 p.m., Sgt. Felipe Alicia said.?He carries a firearm in his pants pocket and it fell out and went off,? Alicia said. ? ... There are no signs of foul play or any signs of violence and we are classifying this as an accidental injury.?

Raines Student IDd After Monday Accident On Lem Turner Road

Police have identified the 16-year-old Raines High School student who was hit and seriously injured Monday morning as she crossed Lem Turner Road.Kanisha Muniz was just blocks from her home off Leonid Road when she was hit by Laura Lane Flynn, 75, and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office.The driver told police she was north on Lem Turner about 6:30 a.m., had the green light and didn?t see the teen, who was crossing in the crosswalk.

Operation Deadend Deals "significant Blow" To Jacksonville Gang

Sheriff John Rutherford announced Friday a nearly year-long effort code-named Operation Deadend that aimed to dismantle a Jacksonville gang that distributed drugs and burglarized homes and businesses throughout the city.Police made 23 arrests, seized guns, 11 kilos of cocaine, 20 pounds of marijuana, six vehicles and almost $29,000 in cash, Rutherford said.The gang under investigation was the Pakistan-Yulee clique who operated from a dead-end road named Junior Street near Edward Waters College in the New Town area.
