Jacksonville Man Charged With Manslaughter Following August Dispute Over .22-caliber Handgun

A Jacksonville man accused of punching another who fell and struck his head on a carport floor has been charged with manslaughter in the August death.Walter Timothy Hodges III, 22, of the 2500 block of Bethel Road was angry about a missing gun and blamed Andre Duprice Goodson, 45, for the loss, according to a police report.

UPDATE: Police have found 44-year-old Angela Scala after a concerned person saw her picture on media reports about her disappearance and called officers. She was unharmed when police found her.Jacksonville Beach police are seeking public help locating a missing woman who has a handicap.Holly Angela Scala, 44, was last seen by family at 12 a.m. inside their residence, according to a news release.She is a white, about 5-feet-5, 170 pounds with short brown hair.

A Duval County grand jury has recommended Public Defender Matt Shirk resign immediately and if he fails to leave office, the governor should consider removing him.Those were two of the three recommendations the grand jury made in its report and findings on Shirk?s conduct as an elected official. The report was unsealed Tuesday.

Appeals Court Overturns Weapons Charge Against Wal-Mart Employee In 2011 Jacksonville Shooting

The 1st District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee ruled that a Jacksonville man was wrongly convicted and sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of carrying a concealed firearm while in a Wal-Mart parking lot.But the appellate court upheld Troy Kelvin Curry-Pennamon?s conviction for attempted second-degree murder, which means his 25-year prison sentence on that charge remains intact.

Neighbors Report Two People Shot In Drive-by In North Jacksonville Subdivision

Jacksonville police are investigating a double shooting in a Northside neighborhood.The Sheriff?s Office reported the shooting in the 11500 block of Whisperingbrook Lane in the Northbrook subdivision just after noon. The road is just north of Dunn Avenue.Two neighbors, who asked not to be identified, said the victims were in their late teens or early 20s who were hit in a drive-by shooting while outside a home. A third person with the victims was not hit.One man who tended to the victims said one was hit in the upper body, while the other was hit in the leg.

Jacksonville Corrections Officer Charged With Theft Fraud

A veteran Jacksonville Sheriff's Office corrections officer was arrested Monday on three felonies related to a fraud investigation and placed on administrative leave without pay.The Sheriff's Office said Wendle Norman, 43, is charged with misappropriation of food stamps ($200 or more in a 12-month period) grand theft and schemes to defraud, the Sheriff's Office public information office said in an e-mail. Norman has been a corrections officer since September 2003.

A 41-year-old transient with a lengthy arrest record dating back to 1994 was arrested Thursday night for making 61 false 911 calls, including one just over a week ago that threatened a Jacksonville fire station in the Oceanway community.James Caroll Gay, who is also a registered sex offender, was charged with making false 911 calls and threatening calls and remains behind bars on $100,000 bail, according to jail records.
