THERE'S NO STOPPING US NOW - House Speaker Dean Cannon threw a curve at the Supremes Monday afternoon with a call to increase the size of the Florida Supreme Court from seven to 10 members. The move continues Cannon's long-running feud with the state's courts. "Over the past year, three times we saw the work of a three-fifths supermajority of this legislative branch, the elected representatives of over 18 million Floridians, demolished by five unelected justices on the Supreme Court," Cannon said last November. Armed robbery at Northside Walmart
Lt. James Pendley said police responded to an armed robbery in progress about 1:45 a.m. At the store located at 12100 Lem Turner Rd. Pendley said officers arrived at the scene and detained a few individuals thought to be suspects, though it appeared later they were more likely just witnesses. Ref. Source 5
Quigley House fundraising gala to be held April 23

Tickets are on sale for Quigley House's fifth annual Spring Gala, one of the Clay County domestic violence shelter and sexual assault center's major fundraising events.
The gala will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. April 23 at the Thrasher-Horne Conference Center, which is located at the Orange Park campus of St. Johns River State College.
Hors d'oeuvres will be served and a silent auction held at 6 p.m. The program and live auction follow at 7 p.m. Tickets are $60 per person; $100 per couple. Dress is cocktail attire, black tie optional.

Jacksonville man found guilty of killing elderly woman with hammer

A Jacksonville man faces a possible death penalty now that he's been found guilty in the December 2009 hammer attack that killed an 82-year-old woman in Mandarin.
A jury of six men and six women deliberated for about two hours Friday before finding Cecil Shyron King, 41, guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Renie Telzer-Bain.

St. Johns missing woman found safe

A 50-year-old St. Johns County woman reported missing by the ocean last week has been located safe in Hillsborough County.
Family had feared for Vera Osteen when some of her clothes were found in the ocean April 4 and her vehicle was missing.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office investigation learned that she was spotted using her credit card at a St. Augustine Walmart early Saturday and was then traced to Stuart on Monday.
Hillsborough authorities said she didn't show any signs of being endangered and said she was on her way to Miami Beach.

Jacksonville men indicted on federal mail fraud and wire fraud charges

Two 42-year-old Jacksonville men have both been indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, 15 counts of mail fraud and 15 more of wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Mark Gruszecki and Kessler Holzendorf each face a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison per count, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Both men also face potential financial judgments that could total $826,296 against Gruszecki and $516,533 against Holzendorf, constituting the proceeds each received from the charged criminal conduct, according to the indictments.
