Jacksonville man, 76, killed in Harley accident

A 76-year-old Jacksonville man died Tuesday evening after losing control of his Harley-Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle on Interstate 95 in Flagler County.
John R. Tucker Jr. was driving north on I-95 past Palm Coast and tried to pass a tractor-trailer when he swerved into the guardrail and was tossed from his bike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
He had recently purchased the Harley and was not used to driving it, the FHP report said.
Tucker was wearing a helmet in the crash.

Fired Mayo employee indicted after hepatitis spread through reused syringes

Former Mayo Clinic radiology technician Steven Beumel, 48, of Orange Park has been indicted by a federal grand jury on five counts of tampering with a consumer product resulting in death or serious bodily injury and five counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud after five patients contracted Hepatitis C, one dying.
If convicted on all counts, Beumel, infected with Hepatitis C, faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.

May 13 apartment shooting victim identified as 50-year-old Jacksonville man

A 50-year-old Jacksonville man has been identified as the shooting victim killed in the Deerfield Apartments parking lot May 13.
Hossain Meah was shot following a disturbance at the apartments in the 1000 block of South Lane Avene about 12:40 a.m. No arrests or motive have been reported by the Sheriff's Office.

Den of thieves stealing shoppers' credit cards at Jacksonville Walmarts

Jacksonville police have issued a warning about a den of thieves who have been stealing credits cards from shoppers' purses at local Walmarts that are later being used at other stores, including those in the chain.
A man and woman have been identified as the people using the credit cards. The suspects' pictures were captured in by a store's surveillance video and released today as part a police bulletin provided by the Sheriff's Office to the media.
No other information was provided by police.

Two-alarm fire scorches Jacksonville apartment complex

A two-alarm fire at an Jacksonville apartment complex briefly threatened several residents before it was brought under control Friday afternoon.
Fire broke out at the Woodruff Apartments on the 1100 block of Woodruff Avenue in Murray Hill. It damaged six apartments, and at its height billowing smoke and flames briefly trapped some residents in their apartments, but no one was injured.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue has the blaze under control.

A gag order has been extended to the parental-rights dispute stemming from a landmark Jacksonville case in which a 12-year-old is charged as an adult with murdering his 2-year-old half brother.
Cristian Fernandez is accused of killing David Galarraga after a series of beatings at the family's Southside apartment in March. Fernandez became the youngest person in Jacksonville history to face a first-degree murder charge after a grand jury indicted him June 2.
