FHP: 11-year-old Macclenny boy dies from injuries in traffic accident

An 11-year-old Macclenny boy has died from injuries he suffered Monday after he and his sister were hit by a car while crossing Florida 121, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Sean Douglas Connell of Macclenny was hospitalized in critical condition and 14-year-old Kristen Connell in serious condition after they were hit about 7:15 a.m. in the area of Jonathan Street. Connell died late Monday, said Lt. Bill Leeper of the Highway Patrol.

Attempted murder case reduced for Bradford corrections officer

Charges have been reduced for a Bradford County corrections officer after his girlfriend testified Friday that she was certain she was shot in the face by accident as he cleaned a gun.
Charles Gregg Hendrix, 50, remains charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. Prosecutors opted against pushing an attempted murder case, however the new charge is still punishable by up to life in prison.

Police handcuff man who attacked Rupert Murdoch during phone hacking hearing

LONDON (AP) ? A protester rushed at Rupert Murdoch as he gave testimony to British lawmakers Tuesday, setting off a scuffle and spattering Murdoch with what appeared to be white foam in a foil pie dish in a shocking interruption of a hearing into the phone hacking scandal that's rocked the media baron's global empire.
After more than two hours of testimony, a man in a plaid shirt appeared to run toward Murdoch before being struck by his wife Wendi Deng.

2 ID'd in separate motorcycle fatalities in Jacksonville

Jacksonville police have identified two people killed in separate motorcycle crashes this week.
Harold Vincent, 53, of Jacksonville and Brian S. Jelle, 42, of St. Augustine were each pronounced dead at the scene of crashes in the Westside and Southside, respectively, Wednesday.
The Sheriff?s Office said Vincent was killed when his motorcycle drifted off Pickettville Road in the 2700 block shortly before 7 a.m. The motorcycle went into a ditch before hitting a telephone pole.

Brunswick shooting leaves two injured

BRUNSWICK ? Police have arrested one man as they continue investigating a double shooting at McIntyre Court Public Housing Complex about 8:30 p.m. Monday.
One man suffered a gunshot wound to the "groin area," while a second man sustained a superficial bullet wound to the head, said Officer Todd Rhodes, a Brunswick police spokesman.
Neither injuries appeared to be life-threatening, Rhodes said.
Rhodes said police have charged Gregory Baldwin, 19, with aggravated assault in the case. Baldwin remained jailed today. Rhodes said Baldwin is accused of shooting.

Infant suffers fractures, broken leg; Hastings man arrested

A Hastings man has been arrested after authorities say he broke a 4-month-old?s leg when the infant would not stop crying and delayed taking him for treatment.
Jay Louis Bergeron Jr., 21, was charged Thursday with aggravated child abuse and is in the St. Johns County jail on $500,000 bail.

State hospital patient killed by truck in Macclenny

A 46-year-old patient who may have been making a bid for freedom Tuesday morning was hit and killed by a tanker truck after he ran in its path outside the Northeast Florida State Hospital in Macclenny, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
