What is the age old adage spare the rod spoil the child. Seriously I do wish they would bring back the death sentence to Canada. Any luck a good canning on the way in and the way out for the lesser crimes.

Murder, group attacks are sky rocketing why because there is no consequence perceived as a negative in their life by the perpetrator why else! Jail is becoming a lifestyle choice not a punishment. No it will not stop all crime but it might give many a moment to stop and think if I beat this guy I am going to be hung! Not 6 years and back on the streets.

Personally I also think a public hanging or execution is also necessary not behind a closed door with just a few guards. You see some one jerking in the last death throws you bet you will remember it.

I don't want to say I know how exactly I feel on this yet. However if you kill just one innocent person with the death penalty, you become a murderer of an innocent. I do not trust our system to make sure 100% of the people on death row are guilty.

There are many studies that show the death penalty does in fact not deter criminals.

Capital punishment certainly is a specific deterrent in that an executed killer will never kill again. But whether it generally deters murder and other violent crimes could be debated ad infinitum.

Studies over the years are not definitive either way, with many concluding that the rarity of executions renders them an ineffective deterrent. Some show a temporary reduction in crime immediately following an execution, while others say those statistics are not mathematically valid. Ref. Source 4

I don't think that shooting is the best way to go with the death penalty, but I do agree with the death penalty by lethal injection for definite serial killers, and re-offending paedophiles.
The reason why people are on the death row so long is to make sure that all court cases, appeal procedures and investigations can be thoroughly gone through first.

I've been reading a book about the first 290 Texan death row prisoners since it was brought back in Texas, I've got to say that most are heinous crimes, but the odd one seems to have been put to death for 'lesser' crimes, that's why in my opinion, the system have got to be 100% sure that the death penalty is warranted, and that the right person is found guilty in the first place!

Comments: If you're sure beyond a reasonable doubt and then some I mean like they were actually caught doing the act or had overwhelming proof like the bodies of victims in their basement or something then I say put them away. They ain't no use to society or tax payers. In cases where its based on witnesses then no one should lose their life over something that could be false testimony.
