It is the state of mind that a person gets when trying to hold two thoughts in your mind that contradict each other.

It is like looking at a person and seeing you strangle them while at the same time you see yourself smiling nicely and shaking their hand.

A perfect example is the story of "The Emperor's New Clothes." The Emperor was convinced that some fabulous garment was being sewn for him when in fact there was nothing there. Lots of people were drawn into the deception, not wanting to appear stupid.

Conflicting information - your mind knows something to be true, but evidence is presented to contradict that "truth."

The government is great at this, by the way, presenting a view of the world that is much different from the reality of it.

Interesting so this can be a form of disillusion or the person is living in an illusion. Could this be referred to what a schizophrenic might be thinking?

That is a good question Clara. I often wonder about things like that. I know I get cognitive dissonance when I am around my ex wife. smile.gif
