Driving through German countryside, one sees endless fields of grain, rape-seed and maize. You could add cabbages to that, and perhaps apples, and of course grapes for wine and hops for beer. No-one thinks of Germany as a center for growing herbs, but the Harz region is one of Europe's biggest producers of marjoram.
