Mormon Church Pays $500 For Video Testimony
Hey folks, I was checking the church web site and came across a contest they are having. According to the site one of the purposes of the video contest (besides the fact that the church will use the winning video for their projects) is to "strengthen their testimonies as they share their talents with worldwide members and to "join the conversation" in sharing the gospel with the world."
The topics are:
QUOTE * A gospel principle
* My life as a Mormon
* Mormon life in general
* Mormon music video
* Homefront Ads
* Humanitarian projects
* Kids´ view of the gospel
* Service
* Mormon youth
* Strength of youth
There will be a selection process (jury and all, two rounds). Basically, some of the winning videos will be placed in Youtube and people will "vote" for the one they like the most. Now it comes down to the part I don't like. There will be awards....FINE. But the awards are CASH prizes. What's up with that? Since when does the Church commercializes in people's testimonies you know what I am saying? I mean if you want to give some awards, certificates....FINE, GREAT, AWESOME! But money? I find the PR people failed big time on this one!
Here are the awards:
QUOTE In each category:
* Up to three awards of $500
* One Visitors´ Choice award of $500
Honorable mention or merit awards may be given in each category.
Source 9So what's your view on this? I mean am I the only one that thinks this is totally odd?
