Mormon Homosexuality Poster says, "At first I was against it because of the sanctity of marriage and it's eternal purpose, but now I am not sure. I agree that a Temple marriage can only be between male and female. This is because of the religious sanctity of marriage for eternity, for propogation and simply because that is how God intended it. However, the Church recognizes the validity of civil marriages that are only for this life and not eternity, even though this is not how God intended it. "Your view is... ?" 2,000-3,000 protest for gay rights outside Mormon church offices in Salt Lake City

"Of course, the church recognizes the right of groups to voice their opinion in the public square. However, those familiar with the church's doctrine on the importance of marriage and family know it is based on principles of respect and love for all of God's children," the church's statement said. "We have continually emphasized that there is no room in this discussion for hatred or mistreatment of anyone." Ref. Source 7

The Church made some CHANGES to the talk of President Packer and let me tell you folks that the changes were not "light" because they do change the meaning of what it was said you know what am I saying? Sounds like damage control to me.

international QUOTE
SALT LAKE CITY -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has issued a statement about changes made to the recent conference address of President Boyd K. Packer for its printed version.

In his talk on protecting the family and morality President Packer addressed same-sex attractions, calling them, what some believe are inborn tendencies toward the impure.

In the official, printed version of the speech the word "tendencies" was changed to "temptations" and the phrase "Why would our Heavenly Father do that to anyone?" was taken out of the talk in text published on the Church's website.

A Church spokesman points out that it is common for conference speakers to review their speeches and make edits.

A call for civility following Mormon Apostle Boyd K. Packer's address

Interestingly, given the events of this week, Elder Holland spoke about other church leaders: "I'm reminded of a comment President Boyd K. Packer made in speaking to those with same-gender attraction. 'We do not reject you,' he said. '"¦ We cannot reject you, for you are the sons and daughters of God. We will not reject you, because we love you.' " Ref. Source 5

In thinking of this talk, I liken Brother Packers talk to a quote by the Savior.

Matthew 5:28

international QUOTE

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Would this same admonition not be true if a man lusteth after a man? I see no different in President Packer's condemnation of tendencies or temptations to the Saviors condemnation of a man's lust toward a woman. It seems we all have inappropriate attractions that we have to work on controlling. Homosexual attraction is one that I believe one needs to control if he or she has this inclination.

It interests me that the Savior had a higher standard, that included controlling lust.
Jesus had most in intolerance for sin (while being the most compassionate toward the sinner), as he condemned even the thought of lusting another person.

Rather off topic, but...

I think we forget that President Packer also focused on the dangers of p-rn-graphy. So I believe he was telling everyone that they needed to control improper thoughts.
