Jewel Thief - Adeben's Reign
After your last mission, from which the publicity was negative, you find a way to possibly redeem yourselves in the eyes of the public. Research On The Net
You decide to seek out as much information as you can using the internet. It is a busy day in New York City but the central library makes finding information easy for struggling Super Heroes until you have attained enough cash to get your own 'toys'.
Your basic searches have revealed the following bits of information:
* Adeben has an international criminal record. Most of his crimes involve black market trading and high end artifact theft. He is known to be well connected to the underground and because of his trades his whereabouts are kept secret by those to whom he does his dark business.
* Despite the best efforts of Interpol Adeben remains a mystery but most believe he has a base somewhere in Egypt.
* Adeben's latest crime is the New york City Museum which happenedto also have an exhibit of ancient mummies recently found in an excavation done in Egypt by Professor Walcott of Britain.
* According to Walcott the ring stolen was believed to belong to a lesser known Pharaoh who worshiped the Egyptian goddess known as "Sekhmet". The value of the ring is priceless. Urban legends suggest that the wearer of the ring can create a gateway for Sekhmet, but only someone with a line of the Pharaohs can wear it and execute the ceremony.
You sit back and think about this... It all sounds so mysterious and global. You wonder if it may be too big for you to handle. You start to recall all you learned about Egypt in High School and if any of it can help you now.
GM: Say what you wish to do now. The story will be updated a minimum of every two days. Please ensure that you have leadership actions in before that.
You split up to try and find out some facts about this case. Your various visits has turned up the following information:
1. Museum - The theft was elaborately done. A man working on the inside supplied a course of action to let the thieves in. He was hired as a custodian months ago. He is currently being detained by police.
The Museum curator says that Dr. Walcott was very upset about the loss of the ring. He is currently at his hotel and is due to leave for London tomorrow morning.
2. Police - The most they tell you is what you already know and add that when they find out more they will make a statement, but in your case that may be too late.

The Shifter attempts to become aware of all that happened at the Museum via the police station and their current suspect. The attending Sargent on duty at the front desk immediately recognizes The Shifter (high activity) and is pleased to serve him however what he is asking for brings some doubt not because of who is asking but the legality of it all.
GM: Shifter rolls 1d100 against his Charisma. Above his Charisma is failure. Please let me know.
Meanwhile....
The rest of you in a group go to the elegant hotel where Prof. Walcott is staying. At the front desk you ask for him and you are informed that he is currently dining. As a group you head over to the dining hall where you are stopped by the restaurant's host who looks all of you over and the way you are dressed,
"May I help you?" he asks in what seems to be an American-French accent.

The Shifter is permitted to see the police interrogation going on but not actually interogate the suspect. He is also shown what the police have found thus far. This is what he learns that is not already known:
* The custodian was a plant and part of an elaborate plan to get the ring. He was recruited by someone whom he never met (the contact), presented with $10,000 in a brown envelope and instructions of what he needed to do. He was threatened when he tried to back out and acted in fear.
* The instructions basically was to feed all the security information needed to the contact. Other than that he does not know the people he was dealing with or the serious trouble he is in now.
* With the help of the suspect disabling key alarms within the museum the hooded thieves masked the cameras and stole the ring. They entered from the roof, down ventilation ducts into the ring display room's ceiling . They used very sophisticated equipment to lower down and remove the ring.

The rest of you wait while Krusten intends to meet with Prof. Walcott but the luxurious hotel has a strict dress code for evening dining and the host once again stops you from trying to enter while looking at your demeanor.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
Krusten's attempt at getting the host to allow her inside has failed and he becomes perturbed by her trying to flash a twenty dollar bill at him. He motions to one of his waiters to ask if Prof. Walcott would come out just to rid Krusten from his presence. The waiter comes back after a minute and says that Prof. Walcott will meet with her in the lobby just after his dinner. The host nods at the waiter and then says to Krusten in his unique French-American accent,
"You see mam it is all taken care of now if you will just wait in the lobby area."
Meanwhile...
The Shifter asks for all video footage of surrounding buildings that may have caught something. He is shown the period when the robbery took place but there is nothing out of the ordinary. They say it is likely that the whole operation involved a helicopter that dropped, circled and then picked them back up.
GM: Say what you wish to do now.
The Shifter's continued research turns up nothing as the authorities that be did not even know there was a helicopter within the area on the date and time you supply. This makes you wonder even more how sophisticated these thieves are to be so undetectable.
Forge finds himself at the back of the hotel in company with a street hobo who is asking him if he has money to spare.
Krusten sees a balding old man come out of the restaurant and I pointed in your direction by the host. He comes over quizzically while looking around. In a heavy Londoner's accent he extends his hand for a shake and asking,
"Yes, I am Prof. Walcott what is this about?"
You explain your interest in his dig, the missing ring and it now missing. he then says,
"Well yes, but what interest is this to you? Are you from the police? I already told them what they needed to know and if you are a reporter I have no time for stories at the moment I need to get to my room."
GM: Say what you wish to do now?
Shifter is a long ways from arriving at the hotel, we will say he is en route.
Krusten tries to reason with Prof. Walcott that she is a super heroine and interested in solving the mystery of the ring and his connection to it. Prof. Walcott is amazed by this and becomes rather nervous. You wonder if he believes you or not.
He then composes himself and says,
"Well then..."
He pauses, looks at his watch... Then he checks to see if he has his room card key on him and looks up at you again, continuing...
"Why don't you follow me. I have something in my room that will help you to understand the meaning of the ring."
He points the way with his hand and is already preparing for you to walk away with him expectantly seeing you follow.
GM: Say what you will do now.
