Jewel Thief - Adeben's Reign - Page 16

The Game Master says...

Assassin and Krusten question the men about the heat source. They are not surprised as they have always believed that the Sphinx is 'living' they just do not know how to 'awaken' it.

Shifter, in the form of a man relates his find. He asks the men about it after describing what he saw. The symbols are based on an instrument used by the high priestesses as a communication device with the gods. It is easy to make a generic one but they do not know if it will work, they say it will be best to get one that is from the same period but they do not know how to go about it.

The Game Master says...

The cab driver is amazed by your many questions, he continues in his broken English,

"I not have all the answer for you now. I know you are powerful, you have power to communicate with the gods. I bring you here to help us. I do not know about a ship, what ship do you speak of? I do not know the cost of such items, such things will be considered priceless and owned by the national museum. I do not communicate with the men who do dark things."

The Game Master says...

The cab driver is excited and more than willing to take you to wherever you want to go. He says that he knows the curator of the museum as well as management because of the amount of tourists he takes there. You get into his cab and begin the long drive.

During the trip Krusten contacts the man she met last night. He says he has never gotten such a request before and will have to get back to you on it.

After about 80 mins. Of driving you arrive at the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo Egypt which is located in Cairo.

At the museum you meet with a woman who Krusten confirms as genuine. She tells you that the ancient Sistrum was used by Egyptian priests and priestesses to call upon the gods much in the same way you call upon divinity by prayer. The Sistrum was supposed to be an aide that 'made the gods notice'.

She takes you to a glass showcase that has within it a Sistrum (See attached). She says, "I know it looks simple but once blessed by a priestess it can then be used in the ritual necessary to call upon the gods, or so they believed." She smiles.

The Game Master says...

Shifter's rounds in the museum reveal bared windows, secure doors, camera system and alarms - all the typical things you would expect to see from a museum that held ancient artifacts.

Meanwhile...

Krusten and Assassin ask questions:

Assassin says, "This might be a strange question but where can we get an authentic Sistrum that has been blessed by a priestess?"

To which she responds,

"Now that's an unusual question. Is this something you want to take back home? The available Sistrums, the authentic ones, are priceless and you will only find them in museums like ours. There are of course modern versions, replicas if you want to call them that. There are also underground modern groups that claim to still perform rituals or blessings, maybe you can talk to them."

For Krusten's question, "Do you know if the Sistrum and the Sphinx have any kind of connection?"

She says enthusiastically,

"Of course, they are all related because they all belonged to the Pharaoh, who at the time was seen as god among men."

The Game Master says...

Krusten inquires of the taxi driver what he knows about a cult group that could bless the Sistrum. He says he has no dealings with such people and sees them as mainly using Egyptian history to sell drugs and deal with the underground.

"They no real..." He says while shaking his head negatively.

Nevertheless, if you want to be taken to their known hangout, an shady club in the lower class part of the city, he will take you there but will not go in with you.

Jewel Thief - Adeben's Reign

The Game Master says...

You don't have to drive very far or for a long period to reach what is considered the least desirable part of the city. You can already tell by the stares and shabby look of the buildings that you are going to be dealing with people who severely lack class on any level. Even so, the cab driver first does a requested drive by to show you the place, an abandoned looking building that he says has a deep underground, and then parks two blocks away. He says worriedly in his broken English,

"I wait for you here, but I not know how long wait. How long to wait for you because I not know when you come back?"

The Game Master says...

You make arrangements with the driver and then start walking back to the location he showed you as the hideout for the cult. As you walk you can feel the stares of the people all around you. They are checking you out and sizing you up. As you get closer a group of five men come out from a house across the street. They are heading your way while one who appears to be the leader is saying in the usual heavy accent,

"Hey, hey, you, tourists, you come here, we talk with you."

He makes a hand signal for you to stop. They look thuggish and some of the men laugh at you as though you were performing a show for them.

The Game Master says...

The thugs approach and you can see and feel (Krusten) that they are up to no good.

Assassin immediately employes his charisma in explaining that you are going to the cult group to try and halt their possible actions. The one thug, presumably the leader of the band, stops and says in his continued broken English,

"Cult?" with a quizzed face possibly not understanding the meaning of the word. In reply he poses a question which seems to be about choice,

"Seshmew or nebet imey-er?"
