"Why does President Hinckley believe reading the Book of Mormon will be so beneficial to each of us? He states: " 'Its appeal is as timeless as truth, as universal as mankind. It is the only book that contains within its covers a promise that by divine power the reader may know with certainty of its truth. " 'Its origin is miraculous. . . No one can dispute its presence' ("A Testimony Vibrant and True," Ensign, Aug. 2005, 4)."

I don't have any problem at all "wading" through it. Â The first few times, I had problems with the Isaiah passages, but I don't think that is going to be much of a problem anymore ![]() |
I have read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover probable 3 times. Being a member that was brought up in the church I was one of those people who never quite got passed the I Nephi parts - then my father gave me a book called "A Voice From the Dust". This book is no longer in print but is available online at different places . The book is in Chronological order starting with the brother of Jared and is put in more of a novel format. It is a great way to read the Book of Mormon.
In the area I live Farr West Utah we have a Book of Mormon study class that is taught by Jeffery R. Chadwick. Brother Chadwick is a Biblical archeologist and he has spent a great deal of time in the Holy Land I have attended his classes on the new testament and they are fantastic. He has changed his focus somewhat and is now studying Book of Mormon archeology and mesoamerican or Mayan studies. His insight into the BOM and Mayan culture is incredible and has really help me understand and to look at the BOM in a differently light!
The gospel principal don't change - but understanding the context has deepened my understanding and testimony that the Book of Mormon is a ancient text translated by a dispensation prophet called of God - Joseph Smith!
150 Million and Counting: The Book of Mormon Reaches Another Milestone
As The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints grows, so does the publishing of the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. The 150 millionth copy of the Book of Mormon was recently printed, passing another milestone in the book's 181-year history. Ref. Source 2
How the Book of Mormon changed the world
Yes, the Book of Mormon has seen a lot since its release in 1830 with the subtitle "An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nelphi" - so it can probably handle being included by UW Information School professor Joe Janes in his ongoing podcast series, "Documents that Changed the World." Ref. Www.washington.edu/news/2014/02/06/documents-that-changed-the-world-the-book-of-mormon/
"Since Mormons do in fact believe that the Book of Mormon is a volume of sacred scripture which bears records of Christ and teaches the doctrines of his gospel in plainess, perfection, and purity, it follows that in a purely figurative sense it might be said to be a Mormon Bible. But in the sense that it is in any way intended to replace the Bible itself such a claim is false."

Defending the Faith: Creating a convincing, cumulative case for the Book of Mormon
We don't expect coercive proof of the kind found in mathematics (And virtually only in mathematics). We're not counting on decisive, secular, public evidence to demonstrate Mormonism true "Beyond reasonable doubt." Probably by divine design, such evidence isn't available to us. Instead, we're here for testing in what specialists call "Decision making under uncertainty." Confident conviction, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teach, comes through a personal, individual witness from the Spirit, not by sifting through academic arguments. Ref.
