Melodilynn -- I really appreciate your words of wisdom, and it's true that we must find the wisdom and not just read the words. But I do feel that in order to get a "feel" for the wisdom, for me personally, I need to be more familiar with the story on just a basic stand point. Then I can delve deeper into what's between the lines, so to speak, afterwards. That also comes from researching a point, looking up a scripture that was read in a talk, studying a particular topic. I'm just thrilled at this point to be on a regular reading schedule
Tena, yes, I'm also beginning the D&C. I've never read all of the content there, and I need to do that. I feel like I'm so far behind in everything that I should have been learning for the past 18 years, that I'll have to go at double time to catch up to where I want to be... But I'm just happy to begin, to know where I need to be, and to do what needs doing.

I started reading the Book of Mormon in Spanish again. I cannot believe that I feel more comfortable reading it in English than in Spanish . I think when books are translated we missed so much!. But it is a humble experience it brings back lots of memories and give me the strengh I need in order to deal with my day.

I know what you mean, Farseer. I've also never read the D&C all the way through, or the Pearl of Great Price. I really should do that. I have read the Old Testament through once and the New Testament a couple of times, but I have really neglected the D&C and The Pearl of Great Price. Thanks for the reminder. |
NOTE: Let us keep in mind that this thread is about the Book of Mormon, you may wish to start a new thread to deal with the Doctrine & Covenants or other books of scripture.
"Let me read that promise to you, from the last chapter in the Book of
Mormon: 'And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye
would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things
are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent,
having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the
power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may
know the truth of all things.' (Moro. 10:4-5.)
"No missionary, no member can fulfill that promise--neither Apostle nor
President can fulfill that promise. It is a promise of direct revelation to
you on the conditions described in the book. After you have read the Book
of Mormon, you become qualified to inquire of the Lord, in the way that
He prescribes in the book, as to whether the book is true. You will be
eligible, on the conditions He has established, to receive that personal
revelation."
