I completely kinda agree with you. the gun was empty. I tried that passive loving dah, dah, dah. I am not good at it. I wouldn't shoot my brother. I didn't pray about. As matter of fact I probably didn't do any of it right. The rest of that story is that he hit me first. The end result was that he left me alone. I thought the event was perfectly aline with the topic if you take it less in a pity since and more metaphorical. I don't know how many of these situations you have had to deal with, but this was the first for me. You see a lot of mormon people are looked at as whimps. So if this is the belief then that makes mormons easy targets for overly aggressive zealots. I am not trying to be macho, but really what are you supposed to do. I wasn't defending the church. I wasn't acting pias. Or acting like I was better than him. I was actually trying to be positive. Which isn't one of my stronger characteristics. What do you do avoid it? Tried it. This place is mine. After about the 20th time of having to deal with it what next. It will keep going. All of a sudden it stoped. This has always been a sore subject for me. Me and him are cool now, but that isn't the point. What is the church's stance on people like that. History indicates more on the passive side. I know the early profits were tough characters. From what I have seen ignoring problems and letting things build up lead to disaster. Is your point of view still common in the church? This whole subject as baffled me ever since I was a kid. When I heard stories about porter and the danites I really related to them. Not in the since that I am just like them, just in the since that I didn't see anything wrong with them. I know church member will defend themselves, but how far will it go? You have read anti mormon literature? They are talking about killing mormons as the only way to stop what they call "a disease". When do words become action? I know the leaders are aware of it, but I wonder if it is taken that seriously? Or they are just sitting back like I did, then they get hit. Or they dont want to cause any panic. I dont know. I mean come on all lot of mormons are in there own world. They kinda look like they are in a daze most of the time. Not you trinis. I am sure you are on your toes. Have you ever been to Utah? They are all bright and smiley. 2 completly different worlds.
Respectfuly Killian
Killian, I realize he is your brother and you love him and want to help him. However, sometimes we need to take care of ourselves as well. I think you need to consider the harm that living with your brother is doing to you. Spiritually. I think the anger and contention with which you are living can only drive the Spirit away. We know that the Spirit will not stay with us in times of contention such as you are living. That is one of the reasons we are taught not to argue over the Gospel. If we do, we are doing it without the help and guidance of the Spirit. I think your complete return to activitiy is in danger as long as you continue to live with the amount of contention that you are. Satan obviously is working very hard, through your brother, to keep you away from the Church. Sometimes it is better to run than to fight.
Imagine how your life would have been ruined had you actually pulled that trigger. Satan is working through your brother. You probably need to give serious consideration to other living arrangements. You can do your brother no good, really, if Satan wins this battle with you.
"Let no one underestimate the power of faith in the ordinary Latter-day Saints. . . . Nothing! No power can stop the progress of the Lord's work."
-- President Boyd K. Packer, "The Least of These," Ensign, Nov. 2004, 88
I was reading some of the things posted to computwitch has he was filling out his Intro and we were talking about the individual who was selling Temple recommends on e-bay. We both agreed that we wouldn't be surprised if he was ex'd for what he was doing.
I believe that we should defend our faith has much and has often is needed. I know that when I lived in Boise (5yrs) I probably had a month period of rest from anti-mormons coming after me. I actually befriended a couple of them and when they read about something new to slam the church they brought it right to me and I always was able to prove the statement: Wrong, correct but miss interpreted or completely correct. Then I would explain to them why or why don't we believe something. If it wasn't for the anti mormons that I've met I probably wouldn't be has faithful to the church as I am today. I think D&C 98 is very appropriate despite it is for physical we could use it for spiritual.
Anti-Mormon Protesters at the October 2005 LDS General Conference
by Allen L. Wyatt
At each General Conference, LDS visitors and worshipers are greeted by flocks of anti-Mormon protesters. Some merely hold up signs, others shout or jeer or mock. The October 2005 Conference brought out the typical collection of anti-Mormon critics. In this collection of photographs, you will see a few of the anti-Mormon protesters and their messages to the Latter-day Saints. Underneath each picture is a link to an article that answers the anti-Mormon charge.

Mormons Knit to Save Endangered Penguins 13 April 2006 When they heard about rare fairy penguins suffering from the effects of oil spills, Jenny Allen and Marion Braun, members of the Church from the New South Wales coastal town of Coffs Harbour, organized a campaign to bring together Australian and New Zealand women aged 50 to 80 to knit sweaters for the foot-high penguins. With the help of Pet Porpoise Pool, an oceanarium in New South Wales, the group was able to rally over 300 knitters and produce 1,800 doll-size sweaters. |
Offtopic but, Isn't the church trying to discourage the use of the term "Mormon"? Another odd thing is that they're issuing press releases with that title for us. What gives? |
It is a nice story. I am glad that these women were able to help this way.
Offtopic but, Yes, the church has been trying to eliminate the word "Mormon" from everyones' vocabulary. Perhaps some have finally realized that to do so is to deny our heritage. Or, maybe someone will lose their job for using the word. Who knows? |
