The parliamentary constitutional committee decided Tuesday to request a police inquiry into Matti Vanhanen's role in his government's decisions involving grants to the Youth Foundation, a charity that funded the former prime minister's 2006 presidential election campaign.
The committee's decision means that Vanhanen, who resigned as prime minister in June, could face a trial before the high court of impeachment.
