There is nothing more I can say. I think Elder's Maxwell statement about it covers it all when he says "These omissions signify a lack of qualifying fully for the celestial kingdom. Only greater consecration can correct these omissions, which have consequences just as real as do the sins of commission. Many of us thus have sufficient faith to avoid the major sins of commission, but not enough faith to sacrifice our distracting obsessions or to focus on our omissions."
You see, in the end as I said before sins of commission and omission are going to be judge in the same way, just because we can rationalize it or fool ourselves in other words, it doesn't mean we are going to 'get away with it'. Most people have a hard time understanding that.

If I just don't get around to my Visiting Teaching or I don't read my scriptures daily, my guilt isn't as "front and center." I can just justify it, like I have done in my other posts, by saying "I am not perfect, I am doing the best I can." |
O.K. We are just not going to understand each other apparently. I do not disagree with anything any one has said. I agree it is not enough. I am simply responding to what I see as the question, why do members do this and why do they think it is o.k. How can they justify it? How can they kid themselves into thinking that they are doing all they are asked because they follow all of the "thou shalt nots."
I agree they are not justified. I just think it is easier to kid themselves about the omissions than the commissions. Yes, in the end they will be accountable. Thank goodness we have a Savior.
Now, so you will all know I really do get it...I think when we are judged and look at the lives we lived, we will feel far worse about the things we didn't do than we will for the ones we actually did that were bad. I believe we will be forgiven for both, but I think the repentence process we go through and the self evaluation we will face will be harder for us as we examine all the things we didn't do that we should have done. I think this is especially true of the things that involve helping others.
