I believe that this is a personal opinion.


Actually, if you change the word in the quote from "universe" to "galaxy", then the quote is exactly right. There is a huge cloud of dust between us and the center of the galaxy. We can detect some forms of radiation that makes its way through the cloud of dust, that teaches us that, indeed, there are a huge mass of bright stars in the center. The dust blocks visible light, but not x-rays and other forms of radiation.
