Garment touch the skin? - Page 3

Thanks Granny7 and others.

Okay so it seems that wearing it next to the skin is the way to go with 'women's issues' being the only relevant time for adjustment save we are going to the beach or other activity where the garment will be exposed.

Agreed?

I too have heard that the Garments were to always be touching the skin except for the three 'S's (participating in Sports, Swimming, and of course during relations with your spouse).  I have also been told that we were not to stain them either, which would relate to like when women have 'that time of the month'.  We haven't been to the temple yet, but we have asked about how to wear the Garments for when we get them, we know how to wear them properly.  Which has also peaked my interest to read the replies in this thread to see how everyone wears their garments.

Yep.

Offtopic but,
My daughter now wants her undergarments to be like mine... I told her she has to go to the temple when she grows up, and to do that she has to obey God and keep the commandments and be happy. She's very excited about that now smile.gif It's cute.

As an unendowed member I have little right to really have an opinion on this topic, though if you all would be so kind as to bear with me, I will attempt to make my case clear...

For the Sisters of the Church, when I was learning about the Temple and the Garment I was told that it was to be worn against the Skin day and night except in matters of Hygene or where it could become visible to mockers (ie. swimming) Well I am not a Sister but in my mind (limited as it is... laugh.gif) I would think that the "time of the month" would be a matter of hygene. Another interesting thing I heard was that the Garment will protect the wearer as long as it remains undefiled... In the OT times a woman was considered "unclean" during that "time of the month"... I think the Lord would understand it if the woman wore a protectionbetween herself anf the Garment to prefent it from becoming "defiled"...

Bras on the other other hand are a metter of personal choice... and unless worn for health reasons may be considered a "fashion accessory" (again since I am both male and unendowed I have never seen a female garment... except in pictures on websites...) Does the Garment not offer support of it's own? If not then I would carefully seek the direction of the Spirit in humble prayer...

For the Brothers, yes it must always no exceptions except the ones noted (Hygene and viewability by unendowed) ...

Yes I can see some people taking advantage of the "exceptions"... for myself I am already never seen in less than would cover Garments... even when swimming... If I ever had a hobby or job that would would detract from my ability to keep my covenants - any of them - I would seriously reconsider that activity...

Just my ramblings on this...

I can see that this is a man making this statement. ( No offence to the gospel enlightened kind of man) If you read the Old testament, with the idea of non-judgement, you would come to understand that the reason why the lord declared us women unclean, was for our protection against Infection, that they would not have had an awareness of at that time . Where at present time we do have medications to assist in affections to both men and woman.

As far as the garment is concerned that is something between the woman and the Lord. What ever the woman chooses to do in wearing the garment , I am confident God Loves Us and he will understand.

I have not been endowed but am temple worthy and have had a temple preparation class, so feel I am sufficiently enlightened to comment on this topic. My mother always wore her bra on top of the garment so for me this seems the natural thing to do.

Absolutely. I feel this is one of those things that some church members take too literally. Mormongirl, I agree with you. As long as we understand the sacredness of the garment, and treat it accordingly, God will understand the intentions of our heart, and bless us for it.
Offtopic but,
To give the guy credit (referring to the above quote), he did say he had little right to have an opinion on the topic. The idea that bras are a fashion accessory is a little amusing.

I have been thinking about this every now and then. I have thought that some things we just do because that's the way it always has been done. (wearing bras on top f.ex.) The garments have visible symbols for some reason. Sometimes I have thought that when women wear their bra on top, they're actually covering the symbols at the same time.

Anyone else who have thought about this?

Joheri, good point, however when you wear your clothing over the symbol aren't you effectively doing the same thing? One thing I have been told that the garment is a protection for is this... if you were tempted by someone and were about to take over your clothes to commit the 'act', you would see the symbols and it would remind you of your covenant.

Now with this in mind I can say it is a possibility that the covering of the symbols takes away this reminder, BUT at the same time the woman would have to take off her bra too and would see the symbol anyway. The other point is that in all the disciplinary councils that I have sat in I have never heard the person say they took off their garment to commit the 'act', it was always them taking off the garment way ahead of time.

Thus, the seeing of the symbols is relevant only to when you take off your clothes, but these symbols should be in your heart in any case and the seeing if them would just be a reminder?

Now I am not a woman and care not for any rebukes, but speaking as if I were of the opposite sex and just from imagination I could not see myself going through a monthly cycle having the garment next to me rather than a panty holding up the pad - just seems logcial.
