Okay.  You just officially freaked me out.  Do you honestly believe that bras are a fashion accessory, and a matter of personal choice??  (Oy and veh, son.  You haven't been around women much, I take it?)  They are most definitely a requirement for most women, but I don't think it's appropriate to begin a discussion here about that particular topic.

Actually I have an ex wife... and have had several women in my life - each has had her own opinion about Bras.

QUOTE
Now I need to ask you... why in the world would you be looking at women's church garments in pictures on websites?

I have not always been a member... and the "secret underwear" of church members was a matter of caontention to me for a long time... It just so happens that while researcing you will find both images of male and female garments.

QUOTE
And from those pictures be making assessments regarding support of the female anatomy?  On the one hand, you seem to have a wealth of knowledge; but on the other hand, you are very naive.

When all one has is an image, then one must asses from that and as I pointed out I was unsure of the bra issue...

QUOTE
This is a topic best answered by appropriate church leadership.

I believe that is what started this... a lack of solidarity in answers from leadership people...

This thread has been wavering from speculations and offtopics. The first post was not meant as an 'exploration' into either male or female but the garment being worn exactly touching the skin. We are not discussing, anything that is revealing anything that is sacred except to ask... can anything be worn underneath it. The reason for the question is because many, including self have received varrying answers on this.

Unfortunately there isn't a 'JD' or quote from a conference on this for obvious reasons, so when next you go to the temple, please ask to speak to the head matron or member of the Temple Presidency and ask them. When you get the information please return and say, yea or ney concerning the original question. I wish I could do it, but I am not near a temple ;(

I personally do not think that we discussed anything out of place in this thread, there were concerns and each other are trying to reply it in the way we think it is...after all, this is a forum not the Bishop office. If we want answers from the Bishop, we ask the Bishop. Also I think we need to be understanding and kind enough to know that not everybody in this forum have been a member since they were born, lots of new members have questions that sometimes the leaders do not know how to answer, I'm not a new member but still having lots of questions without answer. wink.gif  Just my two cents.  smile.gif
By the other hand, I agree with JB about his original question. What it seems to me based on experience and dealings with the sisters in the Church that a lot of people got different answers about the same subject, that's what I am personally concerned about since obviously must be some kind of official regulations about the use of the garments.

The question at hand most likely will not be adequately addressed on this or even the Temple level... Have you though about writing to the Quorum of the 12 JB? or perhaps to President Hinkley himself? I have heard of several cases where people wrote to the apostles and have received replies and in numerous cases have had personal visits to deliver those replies...

This might be one of those cases where only a prophet will have the answer.

Well I have actually written in the past to the First Presidency and got answers, but I do not know if it is necessary in this case.  I think a solution can be found in asking the right person (not the regular temple workers), I think the temple matron and Temple Presidency are the ones that can give the answer, but like I said, I am not near a temple. Hence if we can a few people to ask when they visit then I am sure we can correlate and gather the correct method.

Garment touch the skin?

Wanlorn's original post here was correct:  garments are to be worn next to the skin at all possible times, allowing for hygiene, etc., and we are to take care that they are kept clean and unspotted.  If they do become so, they must be discarded as instructed.  This is from my stake president.

When I went to the Temple for the first time (about 5 ½ years ago) the Matron told us that it didn't need to be directly next to the skin.  They have changed the wording to say something like they need to be worn as undergarments.  I don't remember the exact wording, but she used as an example the need for using Depends (adult diapers).  If one needs to wear these disposable underpants, it is quite acceptable for them to go on first and closest to the skin and the garment to go on top of them.

I remember well the day I was endowed and most of the instructions concerning garments.  I was very interested as I had not heard much if anything on this subject.  I was instructed that garments are worn on the skin both day and night.  Exceptions being during that time of the month and when the activity, such as swimming.   I was also told that to keep the garment 'clean' meant not dropping  them on the floor etc.  In other words these garments are given to us when we are endowed to protect us and to remind us of our covenants and the blessings of keeping them.  I have heard some people of late asking about bras etc.  Bras are clothing, they are worn on top of the garments.  During 'that' time of the month each woman knows best the type of protection she needs.  This is the biggest exception to wearing the garment next to the skin, that I have heard.  Other individuals I have known use the quote "Dress for the activity". Such as going to the doctor.   Or for example; it would be inappropriate if one were participating in a tennis tournament and the 'uniform' was not sufficient to cover the garments.
I have found that for myself, if I do not have my garments on under my clothing I do not feel "right".
