Are you bad because you're trying to be good?

I notice certain members in the Church have a big issue with those members who try to be good and do what is right. They call you names like 'you are too strict' just because you want to live the commandments smile.gif-->rolleyes.gif and things like that. I notice those kind of comments come from people who have a 'past', meaning were less active or they committed a serious sin before and now they are active and they cannot move on because of their past (they maybe pretend it will be erase automatically somehow) and they get angry with certain members because they're good and because these membersnever commit a serious transgression.
Now is bad to try to be good? It seems to me that for certain people is like a sin! smile.gif-->rolleyes.gif

There is no way that this is possible...

You cannot be too good, that is like asking if water can be to clean or food to tasty...

The very thought to call something good bad is the hight of perversion. Our goal should be nothing less of perfection...

QUOTE
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
]Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect.

We also should not be comparing ourselves to eachother but doing everything that we can to become more like our savior. He gave the same chance to the harlot and the woman at the well as he did the rich man and the pharasees even the same as the apostles...
His call is simple... "Follow Me" "Come Unto Me"... Nowhere does he say "compare yourselves to eachother" but rather to Love eachother and help eachother showing true charity one for another...

I feel sorry for these my brethren that they would choose to think that the atonement works any less for than any other member... The Apostle Paul says "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" but do we not know that HIS grace is sufficient?

2 Corinthians 12:9 - "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Ether 12:26-27 - "And when I had said this, the Lord spake unto me, saying: Fools mock, but they shall mourn; and my grace is sufficient for the meek, that they shall take no advantage of your weakness; And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."

Moroni 10:32 - "Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God."

D&C 17:8 - "And if you do these last commandments of mine, which I have given you, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you; for my grace is sufficient for you, and you shall be lifted up at the last day."

Brothers and sister I beseech you, Know ye not the condescension of God? Do you think he loves any of us any less? We should be greatfull that we have members who have strong faith who are willing to show us the path...

If you must look unto me, then please only do so for as long as I walk the path of the Father, otherwise I lead you astray... How will you know if I follow Him... look for yourself and see that he becons you in love...

QUOTE
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Brethren know that I love you, that I am myself, as the Apostl Paul said, am "Chief amongst sinners" ... surely if the Apostle can say this and the modern Prophet can say that even he has far to go... then surely each of us you, me and those who appear "perfect" all have fallen short and can also be called "chiefs" with me... Worry not for striving to be like the "spiritual" or comparing yourselves to any save the spirit... each of us has a gift and each of us a resposibility... Heavenly Father only explects you to do what you are able... He never tests us past what we can bear...

I leave you with this challenge... Be Ye Perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is Perfect.

Very true! It is more perverse if members or leaders allow it to cultivate. I notice that there are those who have a past... they, because of certain choices, did not go on a mission, be sealed in the temple, etc, so they are jealous of those that have made the right choices rather than be happy for them. This comes down to grave envy.

The truly sad thing for those members is that they still can do these things... The Lord has permited people married in a temporal way to become sealed in the Temple after 1 year of marriage or Active membership wichever is longest... and there are also opportunities to serve missions later in life, companion missions with eternal companion...

So if the wrong choices were made in the past the goal should still be progression, if we repent of our sins He is faitfull and just to forgive them, and when Heavenly Father forgives he casts the rememberance of the sin as far as the east is from the west.

Again we should all be looking towards our own progression and comparing to what we are able to do not what others can do... After all we can do, His grace is sufficient... Each of us here, myself, JB, Sol, everyone, has a different amount of talents, to whom much is given much is expected, though the same works in reverse... the Man given 10 talents doubled it, the Man given 5 talents doubled it... the first man did more for his master though both received the same reward. Why? because they were faithful with what they were given...

@ Warlorn, the reason you are able to talk that way is because you are optimistic of your future, you see where the Lord has provided for you to accomplish these things, but there are many who are pessimistic and live in the past so they cannot see the future, hence they can only see the faults of themselves and others. They are without faith in the Lord and look for worldly praise rather than to the God who 'sees in secret'. Those who seek to put down those who are trying to good often are very unhappy people. Isn't this how Satan and his crew work? They are miserable and have only to glory in their effort to make others miserable, because they have nothing else to gain.

Are you bad because you're trying to be good?

@ JB@Trinidad, While I agree that I am very optomistic of my future, I cannot say that I can as yet see the way the Lord has provided for me to accomplish these things, I only know by Faith that He will provide a way as His word will not return to Him void. To me that means that if He says He will do something He does it.

It is our job as their brethren to help to build those who are in a pittifull way so they too can rely fully on the Loving arms of the savior. To pray continually for these members that they might find the faith. Be ready to give priesthood blessings to these when called on to do so, when we miss them in church on sunday - to give them a call and let them know that they are loved and missed. These are they who are hurting and seeking, these are they that require extra love and care...

If they in turn reject our genuine offers of frienship and brotherhood/sisterhood then they are those who are responible for that decision, and will be held accountable for it, though if we do not our part for them then we become accountable.

Part of our encouragment is in becoming their friends. We are told that every member needs three things. A friend, a Calling, and the nourishment of the good word of God... the first thing they need is a friend. It may seem odd to "frienship" a believer, but they need it sometimes more that the non-believer...  While being their friend try to point out the blessings they have received in thier lives and show them the Agape... (For those who do not know what Agape is, it is the greek word that was translated as charity and love, the pure love of Christ... I prefer this word as charity has modernly taken a negative connotations)

Even if they do not want to be your friend for what ever reason there are lots of ways they can be shown agape. Say Hi to them when you see them, make a point to shake their hands and greet them with a smile... Sometimes it even meens giving them the extra little bit of 'praise' that they need to rebuild the slef esteem that was lost... Above all we should encourage our brethren to be better than they are and demonstratre to them our servants heart...

True, what happens is sometimes these members didn't move on. They still living in the past, they still not forgiven themselves for the mistakes they did it in the past and they pick in other people happiness to feel better about themselves. It's sad but true.

I can understand where you are coming from... Yes there was the pearls before swine... though He did also tells us to Love our enemies and be kind to those who spitefully use you... and to love out neighbour as ourselves... Sorry... But I have to vote for Him...

Remember also that when they do despise you and wrongfully use and abuse you, it is not you, but Jesus they are doing it to... Pray for them if nothing else it is one of the biggest weapons in our arsenal...
